Sorry that shouldn't say "effect" rather "align".

Thanks Muz. Aaron I'm not sure rugby league people do remember that well, clearly there are a few that can't remember basic math

A coin doesn't remember. Players, coaches, and referees do.

Do you have any correlation on how these stats effect winning margin?

Yes but they are discrete events with the outcome not altered by the previous. The probability of a win now doesn't change just because you have had improbable results in the past If I toss a fairly weighted coin and it comes up heads 7 times in a row will and then I say before the 8th toss what odds will you give me that it comes up heads again unless you are foolish you wouldn't give me better than even money right as it is still a 50/50 proposition on that 8th toss.

Yanker You make a good point and I have always been perplexed why the NRL do not make every stat available to the public FREE, after all it is a form of promoting, it gets an incremental section interested. Just as perplexing is that all of the stats from all of the competitions incl. U20s, NSW and Q Cups are not only freely available but available in real time. Hey its 2015. If you look at the amateurish web sites that the NSW RL and the QRL have then you will understand why stats are not a priority. As the the Holden Cup, well, it is non existent. Crank, in answer to your Question: You have to pay for it. Information = intelligence and fans will embrace the game if they are given more intell - FREE! One day, one day.

Just curious, where do you guys find these stats? I'd live to find some really in depth ones like they have in the NFL and NBA. Decoy runs by forwards, win percentages at certain grounds, percentage of quick the the balls registered by forwards, how many times on average the ball is kicked out of play per team. Stuff like that.

Gav, Good work mate but you have the Storm record v the Top 8 team incorrect. It should be:: RECORDS AGAINST TOP 8 TEAMS TEAM PLAYED WON LOST PERCENTAGE Roosters 13 7 6 54% Storm 12 8 4 67% You had the Storm at Storm 12 5 7 42%

Great stuff mate! So if the Roosters (the best attacking team in the comp) score more than three tries the Storm are done right?

I remember walking into the old Sports Ground dressing sheds back in 75 and the players were drinking KB and smoking cigarettes. Things do change Renegade.

I have a feeling it might be field-related. The drainage at Allianz is nowhere near as good as ANZ Stadium and they seem to really struggle on a greasy track.

Storm have an abysmal record at Allianz. Don't know whether its the wind directions or stadium turf but they seem to struggle to play there, the forwards are sluggish and Cronks kicking game goes way off. That is one stat that might be relevant.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the Roosters 24-2 victory was played a few nights after Origin 1, with all of Melbourne's key players (Slater, Smith, Cronk, Chambers) backing up? The Storm have a far stronger side this year than they have had for the past few finals campaigns, especially in the forwards. This should be a bloody excellent game.
