It’s been an expectedly tough campaign for these two sides, but both have reason to be confident of registering their first win today.

The sides might be far from the standard required to advance at a World Cup, but being placed 17th and 18th on the world rankings suggests we could be in for as entertaining contest.

If recent meetings between the two are anything to go by, it should go down to the wire – two of their last three have been decided by one and two points.

For the Canadians, it’s their last chance to claim some Rugby World Cup bragging rights before they head home.

So far they have only managed to secure a single bonus point, while suffering losses to group heavyweights Ireland, France and Italy.

The loss to Italy was particularly frustrating for the Canadians, who held a 10-0 lead at one stage, before going down 23-18.

They’ll be ruing that result, but will also draw confidence from it, as it shows they can match it with strong opposition. With no more games remaining at the tournament, we can be sure they’ll will throw everything they have at this one.

Romania of course still have another game to look forward to after today – they play Italy in Exeter next Monday morning (AEDT) – so unlike the Canadians, they don’t have the luxury of leaving everything on the park today.

Facing Ireland and France in their first two games has meant Romania haven’t had a sniff of momentum so fat this tournament, but they have a good chance to bring it home strong and leave England with their heads held high.

Can Canada claim their first win against Romania since the 1995 World Cup? Or will Romania move off the bottom of Pool D and set up a clash with Italy that could see them finish as high as third in the pool?
