Klopp agrees to become Liverpool manager

By News / Wire

Jurgen Klopp has agreed to become Liverpool’s new manager and is expected at the club later on Thursday, British media reports.

The English Premier League side have been looking for a new boss since Brendan Rodgers was sacked on Sunday.

The former Borussia Dortmund coach had been the hot favourite from the start.

Sky television said Klopp, 48, had agreed to become manager.

The Daily Mail newspaper said Klopp would sign a three year deal under which he would earn more than STG4 million ($A8.5 million) a year.

Several of Rodgers’ backroom staff – including Gary McAllister and Sean O’Driscoll – left Liverpool on Thursday in anticipation of the new manager arriving.

Klopp led Borussia to two Bundesliga titles in seven years before leaving in May saying he wanted a sabbatical.

If you get a chance to watch or listen to Klopp's presser, it's well worth it.

Geez mate, no higher-ranked teams? Real already knocked at his door at the end of 2013 plus it is no secret that Bayern always was and always will be after him once Pep has left.

Im not too sure where things went wrong. Im not an avid dortmund supporter though i catch whatever games i can and theirs are included. He did very well to keep the bulk of the team together. Interesting to note that despite their poor domestic form, their champions league form was quite contrasting by memory. Losing to juventus is no embarrassment. They were very lucky to get him. The fact that he has the aura and ability to dictate terms will allow liverpool to reap the benefits. They'll have to spend big and/or exceptionally well to convince coutinho to stay or replace him if he goes.

He sure did achieve great things at Dortmund -- he was fantastic. What do you think went wrong in the last season? Dortmund seemed to be on top in many games, but were being pipped anyway -- shots on goal just missing, etc. I think Liverpool are lucky to get him, but I'm surprised some higher-ranked teams haven't gone for him. I'm also wondering how well he will fit into the English scene, which generally seems to be below Germany, Spain, and even the bigger clubs in Italy.

He hasn't lost anything. He is one of the top 10 managers in world football, and liverpool are well off being a top 10 club. He achieved incredible things at dortmund. Things can only go up from here.

I hope his sabbatical has helped him to be reinvigorated. He looked so down and confused every time I saw him on t.v. I would have thought Liverpool might have given him 1 year, with a 2 year option. We know he has been capable of great things, but whether he still has the goods is questionable. I hope he has.
