Any speculation George Burgess could join Jarryd Hayne in the NFL has been put to bed after the English prop re-signed with South Sydney on Thursday until the end of the 2018 NRL season.
Burgess joined his twin brother Tom in committing to the Rabbitohs for three more seasons.
Both players were off contract at Redfern at the end of next season, but the club has moved to shore up their long-term playing roster after a disappointing premiership defence this year.
George Burgess, 23, said earlier this year he was closely watching Hayne’s conversion to American football and only signed a one-year extension with the Rabbitohs in May so he he could keep his options open.
But he has now pledged his future to the cardinal and myrtle.
“This club is my home now and I’m happy to have my future sorted,” George Burgess said.
“We’re building something great at this club and with commitment and dedication we can achieve our goals.
Coach Michael Maguire welcomed the retention of the England internationals.
“George and Thomas are two of the pillars of our forward pack and we are very happy to have them extend their time with the club to cover at least the next three seasons,” Maguire said.
“They are both great athletes and have made a real impact on our forward pack over the past few years.
“They are both leaders-in-the-making and were happy to have the boys in red and green.”

Let me help you there Snake, yes most of the boys didn't resign, they all re-signed! All the boys are happy at Souths, but every year the Media make up porkies to throw Souths off our game. Last season it was Brad Fitler, with the Burgess and Inglis thing. That was utter CRAP! This year Madge trained them way too hard? Although Ben Te'o couldn't hack it but it got him a Premiership ring. Luke had 3 years remaining on his contract and went home as his dad is not well so Isaac wanted to be close to him just in case! With Stewart, he had 1 year to go but he was behind everyone at Souths in a fitness sense so Souths allowed him to go to England, where it is soft and to extend his career by an extra 2 years.

Good signing for The Rabbitohs but nothing special in the bigger picture of " special signings". Neither of them are as goods as big brother Sam. George has to be kidding himself if he thinks he will achieve anything near what Hayne has accomplished with the NFL. Hayne is a sporting freak, a very special athlete who we see once in a life time. There are a lot better forwards than either of the remaining Burgess brothers. Mat Scott, Jesse Bromwich, David Klemmer, James Tamou just to name a few. They must be on mega bucks at Souths which takes away from their salary cap. Ah well, Rusty and The Rabbitohs like them. Bad luck Sam is not returning for them. They have a long way to go to get the illustrious trophy back.
