Who they will get in the AFL draft: Adelaide, Brisbane and Carlton

If you want to know that and everything else about this year’s draft, every clubs draft picks and who they will get – then this is the place.

Here are the first three clubs – Adelaide, Brisbane and Carlton.

Adelaide

Picks 9, 13, 71, 89, and 107

What Adelaide need

The Crows had a competitive year in 2015 – but in order for them to challenge for the top 4 next year they’ll be needing to accommodate for the loss of Patrick Dangerfield, preferably a picking up an outside midfielder as the Crows lack speed and skills showed by their lowest disposal efficiency in the AFL this year.

Pick 9 – Harley Balic (187cm/80kgs) – big strong inside midfielder who loves inside ball, can play half back, half forward but is suited to midfield. Fantastic player.

Pick 13 – Jade Gresham (177cm/74kgs) – a perfect fit after losing Dangerfield, boasts skills shown in the goal kicking test by winning, top 5 in both the clean hands test and the kicking test.

Pick 71 – Tom Doedee (188cm/80kgs) – seen as a dark horse to be a star, has speed when playing for Vic country at the championships. But has downsides, hopefully he can become a great player.

Pick 89 – Rookie Promotion or Pass

Brisbane

Picks 2, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 78, and 96

What Brisbane need
In need of a key forward or a key defender – but with pick 2 and their strong academy players they look set to get both, plus an inside midfielder.

Pick 2 – Josh Schache (199cm/100kgs) – this bloke is going to be an absolute gun, no doubt. Has bloodlines with the club as his dad played with them (didn’t play 100 games so can’t go father-son) and Josh has supported Brisbane his whole life.

Kicked 24 goals in six games in the championships, the most ever while also winning the Peter Larke medal for the best player at the championships. While also kicking 34 goals in 10 games in the TAC cup for the Bushrangers.

Pick 38 – Will be given up to secure Ben Keays (185cm/83kgs) – The ball-winning midfielder seems to always be in the action, he is a contested inside midfielder in the Brisbane academy so looks set to end up here. Keays has had a consistent and terrific two years for Queensland, capped this year in captaining his state to a championships victory and winning back-to-back All Australian honours.

Pick 39 – also given up for Keays

Pick 40 – Will be given up to secure Eric Hipwood (202cm/84kgs) – What an athlete! A fantastic aerialist who is equally good below his knees. He has pace backed up by his 2.97secs in the 30m sprint – the best for anyone over 200cm. Nice left foot kick but it will be needing work, also doesn’t like using his right foot. Will need to add some bulk though at only 84kgs for his 202cm. Massive lad and can’t wait to see this guy in action.

Pick 41 – Also given up for Hipwood

Pick 42 – Will be given up to secure Hipwood/Keays

Pick 78 – Lachlan Tizani (188cm/84kgs) – plays as a medium forward similar to that of a Jake Stringer as he can play both tall and small. You see glimpses of what he can do but can’t string 2 games together nor can he string 4 quarters together. Will probably be delisted in the next few years. Although came fourth in the standing jump with 69cm.

Pick 96 – Rookie Promotion/Pass

Carlton

Picks 1, 8, 11, 19, 59, and 60

What Carlton need
They need some key position players and to start rebuilding again. With the first pick in the draft and 4 in the top 20 they look to be on the right path – they should be looking for a key forward, key defenders, a classy small forward and a midfielder in their top 20 picks.

Pick 1 – Jacob Weitering (195cm/93kgs) – Undoubtedly the best player in the draft. Weitering has sublime and silky skills not only by foot but by hand as well as he rarely wastes it. In need for a defender, the Blues should take him straight away with their first pick.

Pick 8 – Charlie Curnow (191cm/95kgs) – Not every day you find a midfielder who can also play as a key forward.

The most interesting player in this year’s draft pool. He isn’t that big but he plays big, throwing around his 95kg frame. At the combine he showed his true athleticism, running a high 14.5 beep test and 10:24 minute three-kilometre time trial.

Pick 11 – Wayne Milera (185cm/75kgs) – After overcoming a heart condition this guy has turned not only his opponent inside out, but his draft ambitions as well. The classy half forward would walk straight into the Carlton line up and could also rotate through the midfield. His 25-disposal and five-goal effort against Glenelg was special, particularly having been told by recruiters that week he needed to find more of the ball. Class, class and some more class!

Pick 19 – Harry McKay (200cm/95kgs) – Ran an impressive 10:58 minutes for the three-kilometre time trial at the combine. Has great hands and is a very strong player overhead. Would pose as a fantastic back up ruckman for Kreuzer, and you can already see him as their main target up forward for the Blues, both him and Casboult will combine to become a deadly force.

Pick 59 – Sam Skinner (197cm/96kgs) – Thinking of this name brings one name to everybody’s head – injuries. Massive punt to get him but when he is fit he is one of the best defenders in the draft, a big punt, but I think he is worth it.

Pick 60 – Nick Coughlan (193cm/84kgs) – Tall forward in the making, also a big punt. He plays for the Bushrangers, the same as Josh Schache and his spotlight was stolen a bit by him. Could be a good player but I doubt it, we will have to wait and see with this one.
