Anthony Mundine vs Charles Hatley highlights: Boxing blog, round-by-round updates

By Isaac Nowroozi / Roar Guru

Anthony ‘The Man’ Mundine (53-6) is putting his title on the line when takes on America’s Charles ‘The Future’ Hatley (25-1) in Melbourne. Join The Roar from 7:30pm (AEDT) for live commentary of this championship boxing bout.

Coming off a split-decision win over Sergey Rabchenko to win the WBC Silver Light Middleweight title less than a year ago, Mundine will defend it for the first time, against the impressive Hatley.

Since moving down in weight, Mundine has been gunning for a high-profile fight against Floyd Mayweather or Miguel Cotto, and a victory over Hatley could put him in the right position.

Despite entering the bout as the favourite, 40-year-old Aussie has been riddled with injuries, and knows that time is not on his side.

While Mundine’s main preference is a high-profile bout against a big name, ‘the Man’ still remains open to another fight with Danny Green, claiming that it would be “easy money”.

29-year-old Hatley sports an impressive 25-1 record, however his resume the missing star power. A win over Mundine would bring some.

Hatley’s most notable wins are a first-round knockout of Carlos Garcia in May 2009, and an eight-round unanimous decision over Emanuel Augustus in September 2010.

Hatley does not lack fight experience, having competed in over 260 amateur boxing bouts, winning 250.

Despite heading into the contest as the underdog, Hatley has health on his side, and will be looking to take advantage of an injury-prone, older Mundine.

Prediction
Mundine is not the fighter he was in his prime, however he still possesses speed, and his big-fight experience should come into play. Expect him to get the win, but don’t expect it to be easy.

Anthony Mundine by unanimous decision.

Can Anthony Mundine prove he’s the man once again, or will Charles Hatley show Australia that he is the future? Join The Roar from 7:30pm (AEDT) for live commentary to find out.

damn sounds like a great fight, but I'm afraid that's probably the end of choc as a competitive fighter. He's really only got the one more exhibition fight against Green in him.

Mundine humble in defeat. He showed some great heart, and he's not making excuses, which is nice to see.

Looked up to Mundine for a long time, as much I as I want to see that fight, don't know if him fighting again is a good idea.

Damn bad luck Anthony. Sounds like an epic fight. Fight of the year, at least in Australia anyway.

Respect to both men. Charles Hatley made a name for himself, and Mundine showed that he is one tough man. Pure heart, but that only gets you so far.
