Good point, JoM: the initials probably stand for ‘Forever King Louie’ or ‘Finding Kuala Lumpur’ or something like that. The idea that they actually have something to do with Keiran Loveridge is obviously just a complete fabrication by the media………

If footy players want to be dickheads, let them be dickheads

Everything else is irrelevant? What, decades of building and funding an Olympic programme, and right decisions/ wrong decisions in admin, and in building team culture etc, all irrelevant in the face of who got a slightly less mouldy shower curtain?
Well, if you say so. Foolish of the Brazilians to evidently have put their team in a much worse hotel than the Aussies though. And I wonder why China must have put their Table Tennis players in top accommodation, but not their gymnasts………..

How does Australia's Rio campaign compare to previous Olympics?

Um, you’d rather it didn’t kill the vibe?

The Olympics Wrap: Edition 9 – Why are the Bali Nine in Rio?

I liked Conor at first, then got sick of his antics, and I really thought Diaz was going to show him up again. He’s got me eating my words now- like Jimmy says above, the guy has the heart of a lion. Very impressive comeback.

Conor McGregor now has the world at his mercy following UFC 202 victory

Well, poor discipline has been blamed for Aussie swimmers under-performing before, but putting a pseudo-governess in charge, who acts as if she’s going to spank them if they don’t eat their vegetables isn’t really going to help them develop the maturity they need.
Likewise, if the aim is to avoid distractions, then having to jump through hoops for an attention seeking Robomummy isn’t going to help either. Don’t believe me? Look at the performances………..

Australian swimmers banned from closing ceremony

You also see some of the best at the Olympics though: it will take more than the standard partisan antics to drown, for example, that wonderful moment of the Fijians singing together after their victory. I’m really not sure that the bad features even take away from the good- you need both: We saw Hope Solo embarrass herself when she lost, but then Phelps showed great sportsmanship in encouraging and praising the guy who beat him. I think the author has it right- there’s a lot to be cynical about with the Olympics, but if let cynicism blind you to everything, you’re going to miss out. Same as in life.

The Olympics: Embrace it, there's nothing like it in the world

Why always pick on the Chinese and Russians?

Because they keep getting caught doping: it’s the same reason everyone gives Lance Armstrong a hard time.

Why does Michael Phelps constantly change his togs

Because he’d feel pretty silly going back to the Olympic village in his swimsuit

why was his team mate in the relay staring at his lower back or buttocks?

Presumably the same reason you were….

CONFIRMED: Positive drug test from Chinese swimmer rocks Rio

It’s not a savage burn though: it’s a total victory for Piers Morgan.

Piers wants attention, so he decides to goad Kyrgios: he implies Kyrgios is childishly impulsive and ill-tempered. Kyrgios responds by proving he is childishly impulsive and ill-tempered.

Had Kyrgios just ignored tosser Morgan, or drawn attention any of Morgan’s own massive character flaws, it might have been a savage burn.

Nick Kyrgios tells Piers Morgan to 'eat a dick' in savage Twitter burn

“The AFL must realise that females aren’t juniors. They’re athletes who represent their team to the eyes of the nation.”
Totally agree: let the women play exactly as the men play, alongside the men. No gender division, no difference.
If they are good enough to keep up, treat them with the exact same respect male players would be treated. If they’re not good enough, ignore them, as you would male players who don’t make the grade. Do the same thing in Tennis and the Olympics, and then the author of this piece will be able to revel in the glory of a truly equal playing field, without humiliating concessions being made on account of gender.

Female football has earned its own league, but hasn’t yet earned respect

Yep, says it all: Australia outsmarting the Poms weak defence, Wallabies left unmarked to score tries at will. England will never defeat Australia unless they can sort their defence out……..

Wallabies vs England highlights: England stun the Wallabies to claim the series

Year round fan of Russian Athletics, are we?

Russian track and field athletes banned from Rio Olympics

I wanted Hayne to do well in the NFL, but I’m doubting the Hayne plane now. Why?

Because giving up NFL for 7’s is like quitting Formula 1 to race Go-Karts. It’s stupid, and it looks like he’s putting attention ahead of actual sporting achievement- if it’s too hard, don’t get better, just switch codes,- that looks like the name of the game now.

It's stunning how many people are doubting the Hayne Plane again

For someone who is trying to get away from the ‘media circus’, McGregor is certainly putting a lot of effort into drama and media baiting these days. I used to like the guy, but he’s really playing into the hands of his critics this time.

Conor McGregor and UFC at odds over whether Nate Diaz rematch is back on

To be fair, if your criteria for judging a fight is ‘Who is the most Filipino of the two boxers?’ Then Pacquaio was definitely robbed.

If you’re looking at who landed the most punches and is the superior fighter, tactician and athlete, then of course Mayweather was an easy winner (you could have replaced Pacman’s gloves with brass knuckles and it wouldn’t have helped)

Manny Pacquiao vs Timothy Bradley highlights: Pacquiao wins final fight

Like Michael explains, it’s OK that Serena wouldn’t stand a chance against even a mediocre male player, because they have a natural strength advantage, so it doesn’t count.
It’s a good job Serena never benefited from having any natural strength advantage over her opponents……..

Is Serena the greatest sportsperson this millennium?

The men’s changing room apparently……..

(seriously, I was dead against Gayle regarding the McLaughlin interview, but this new case sounds weird- maybe it is turning into a bit of a beat-up after all.

Chris Gayle launches defamation suit against Fairfax Media

If the same comment was made to a male reporter would it be an issue?

Honestly, if Chris Gayle made the same comments to a male reporter, I think there would be even more media attention………..

Renegades slap Gayle with "giant" fine for comments to Mel McLaughlin

I thought this article was just going to be the punchline:

“because they both feature drivers!”……..

How motorsport is like a game of golf

Almost any Boxing knockout which comes as part of a combination (ie. most boxing knockouts) involve a flurry of punches connecting after the ‘knock-out’ blow. It would be easier to name examples where that *doesn’t* happen in Boxing.

Is UFC sport?

If you like Boxing, your argument loses any credibility it might have had: the injuries in UFC aren’t anywhere near those sustained in Boxing. Rousey will bounce back faster than Gerald McClellan did. Of course, your argument seems based around your pearl clutching hang-ups with women in Sport, so there wasn’t much to lose.

Is UFC sport?

Watching the English fans singing La Marseillaise together with the French was legitimately very moving and meaningful.

Of course, the Turkish fans booing and screaming through the minute’s silence before their match against Greece was a reminder of how there are other mindsets out there, but still, nice to see honourable behaviour at the England-France game.

A night at the Stade de France

I would be a sight indeed! But wouldn’t a hybrid Rugby/ Basketball idea look a lot like AFL?

The All Blacks are better than the Dream Team

It’s true that Rugby League has very little going on internationally, but international Rugby Union is only seriously contested between 4 nations, and only two of those nations actually care about the sport.

Putting Union in the same bracket as Soccer is comically deluded at best.

The All Blacks are better than the Dream Team

That’s like saying Soccer is dying because you can’t find a channel showing the Faroe Isles vs Orkney over 50s match.

Anthony Mundine vs Charles Hatley highlights: Boxing blog, round-by-round updates

When I see Spiro say that Rugby League
Is like couplets, but Union is like
the blank verse that I am writing in now
I think he has a point, but not the one
he did initially intend to make.
Blank verse is really a restrictive form,
old-fashioned and constraining in itself:
And sitting through a game of Union,
feels rather like forcing yourself to read
Paradise Lost in it’s entirety.

But Rugby League just flows and flows,
And Sammy’s back at the Rabbitohs!

SPIRO: Sam Burgess is a league great and rugby journeyman
