WATCH: Pumas demolish Barbarians at Twickenham

By The Roar / Editor

The Barbarians celebrated their 125th anniversary with a match at Twickenham against the Pumas in front of a crowd of more than 38,000.

The Michael Cheika-led Barbarians provided some strong signs early, but the Argentinians were simply too quick and creative in attack for the star-studded Baa-Baas, running out a 49-31 victory.

Sorry , Johono but it will not work. The european teams that are paying the salaries do not want to release the players for the RCH. The only way to keep the players at home it was to have them in a payroll, otherwise the might have gone to europe where they get paid but not release to pay for The Pumas. Some of the players like Imoff, Ayerza, Bosch, Fernadez Lobbe, have alreday signed long term contracts with their teams and cannot break them. May be if their contracts expire before 2019 some of them can make it to the national team.

Shop, there is an schedule in the SANZar web page, Where? nobody knows yet, it was going to be in CASI but the club members said no. I am sorry to tell that one of the clauses of the contract saids that it cannot be more than 20km from Buenos Aires where the games are played . (Players do not want to travel more than what they have to, I mean foreigners)

Where are they going to play NB? Is there a schedule set for home games? On the official website it has times but no venue. Hoping there is a game in Mendoza.

Bakkies...True that there is a lot of rugby to play till 2019 however these youngsters have been getting results on their own...For instance Fernandez Lobbe didnt feature in the victory vs Springboks and well as victories over Australia and France... If the youngsters hadnt been getting results it would have been an issue but it appears the UAR has done a fine job to prepare them for competition at the highest level.. As for the lack of consistency in selection a number of factors where at play...Firstly there was team disharmony during the Phelan era which saw player revolts as such the new coach sort to 'weed out' the rebellion leaders hence key senior players like Albacete,Santiago Fernandez and Conzalo Tiesi were removed...Also one can add that they seized the opportunity to get in the youngsters... Another reason to this was due to player availability which saw players not being available for June Tests but playing in the RC and November... With this new system the days of Argentina playing inferior sides in June is a thing of the past which will help in ranking points and also consistency will be enhanced as players will be available for all Tests including the new Americas Rugby Championship

There's four years of Rugby until then including the crucial time before the rankings cut off to decide the seeds. It's unlikely to be later than the last time. You can't think that far ahead especially with the rankings. Argentina do an awful lot of chopping and changing plus going through periods where they don't win many tests.

There's a very good Argie flyhalf playing for Castres in the Top 14. Probably the best accuracy at posts in the league. He only joined them this season from Oyonnax.

NZ league are able to pick from players in the NZRL comps, NRL and Super League. Completely different to restricting test selection down to players just playing for the one home based team.

NZ league do with the Warroirs. Both Auckland and Canterbury have completely dominated the AB team and reserves in the past....

Johnno....Players like Bosch wont make it into 2019 hence for UAR to change rules to accomodate such a player is not prudent.. Aryeza will be 36 by 2019 and i think Houcarde and UAR have done about enough to nurture replacements....Lucas Noguera Paz at just 23 has been given enough preparation and with Super Rugby should be ready to step into Aryeza's big shoes.... It must be said the only notable worries will be Imhoff,Patricio Fernandez,Figallo and Gallaza

You simply can't base your test selection just on one side.

You are correct, but the thing with Cubelli is not an exeption. The problem with the players that play in europe is that the teams that pay their salaries do not want to release them for the RCH, if the UAR wants to have a competitive team they must keep the players at home.

@Bakkies...Absolutely,eligibility will become the key issue as the Rugby Championship draws nearer.. But some players in Europe like Bosh,Lobbe myt not make it to Japan due to age but however Aryeza,Imhoff,Figallo and Galarza still have an opportunity but wont be eligible...Imhoff's contract expires in 2017 and also Galarza's so it remains to be seen whether they will opt to come back home... Another youngster by the name Patricio Fernandez who plays Fly Half and Full Back, who is the highest points scorer in U20 WC history and the brighest youth prospect of all is stuck in France playing for Clemont and wont be eligible till his contract expires in 2017..... But other than these all their main Puma players are in Argentina right now

wont be surprised if they go with a lot of young guys. the young puma U20 team gave a fright to the NZ U20 team who went onto win the championship. they had a lot of really big and strong boys who really played well (albeit some bad reffing). also playing together for a long time (like 16 matches) will make them gel well.

Argies should bring in a 60-Test rule, or pick established players aged 30 or over who have been long-term in Europe. Bosch as an example, as he's not part of the younger generation, he grew up on Argies having a Euro connection. But it would be a shame if guys like Ayerza and Bosch were lost to the Pumas set-up.

Cubelli has signed for the Brumbies and will remain eligible for the Pumas. The UAR are willing to make an exception for players signed by other super rugby teams, so it'll just be European based players that will be ineligible. And as far as I'm aware Leguizamon has signed for the super rugby team.

the babas just played the same (almost) team on tuesday against a club side in england. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/rugbyunion/article-3323080/Gloucester-14-62-Barbarians-World-Cup-stars-shine-thumping-win.html anyways this was more of a friendly match becoz of the death of Jonah Lomu. they celebrated 125 years of babas and his contribution to the game by playing more of a touch game. why else would victor matfield take a 22m dropout and kick straight to the opposite wing on 10m line LOL

Corbelli, Imhoff, Fernandez Lobbe, Ayerza, Leguazimon, Agulla, Amorosino and co are still playing overseas. Ayerza is 32 now. Lobbe is 33 Leguzimon is 32 Cubelli is 26 Agulla is 30 Amorosino is 29 Imoff is 27 i think u left out the most important guy - Mrcello Bosch who is with Saracens in England and he is also 31. so other than Cubelli and Imoff , others may just be too long in the tooth to go to Japan. also dont forgert that the Puma coach left out some experienced head to this world cup like the 2nd row. so ...

And considering that combinations are a keystone to successful national sides, then having a side in SR virtually becoming the same side in the RC next year should be the recipe for a successful campaign, by the Pumas, in RC 2016. To that end, there will be no excuses if they fail to win a single test or for that matter, rattle the RC, itself.
