BREAKING: Chelsea sack Jose Mourinho, Hiddink expected to take over

By The Roar / Editor

Chelsea have sacked Jose Mourinho after a disastrous run of results that has seen the EPL champions sit just a point above the relegation zone.

The club released a statement that the Portuguese coach would be leaving the club by “mutual consent”. The terms of the settlement – and Mourinho’s likely payout – have not yet been released.

Chelsea, the current Premier League champions, have had a disastrous start to the 2015-16 season and currently sit just one point above the relegation zone. Monday evening’s 2-1 loss to the league-leading Leicester appears to have been the final straw.

The sacking continues the trend of ruthlessness under Roman Abramovich. He has dismissed eight managers since taking over the club in 2003, with Mourinho’s sacking the fifth time he has fired a coach during the season. The Portuguese coach was sacked once before, ending his previous tenure at the club from 2005 to 2007. He also sacked Roberto Di Matteo only months after leading Chelsea to a Champions League triumph.

Mourinho had received support from some of his colleagues of late, with new Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp telling the press that the man who led Chelsea to three league titles did not become a bad coach overnight.

Mourinho leaves the club as the most successful manager in Chelsea history, having brought them three league titles, one FA Cup, one Community Shield and three League Cups during his two stints at the club.

Unlike their domestic form, Chelsea have done well in the Champions League, topping their pool with only one loss in the group stages.

Dutch coach and former Socceroos mentor Guus Hiddink is expected to take over from Mourinho for the rest of the season, according to various media reports. There is no word yet on whether Hiddink is considered to be a long-term option, with former Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti or current Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola considered possibilities.

I have read two soccer articles on the roar recently, and they both had one thing in common: A poster named Fiul arguing with everyone for the sake of arguing!

SM, how did the Man U side do after the retirement of Ferguson? Lets not forget both Chelsea & Real Madrid went on to win the Champions league after he retired.

Haha!!!! My apologies. Article on Mourinho sacked by Chelsea. Your first comment 'Gotta love private ownership eh..?' Sorry I misinterpreted it. BTW, I aint no Fuss' s servant, he is a lowly MV supporter, who thinks the sun always suns in Melbourne & he talks too much AFL for my liking on the football tabs.

Irony AR!!!! Do you not think as football fans discussed the demise of one of the most colourful (in many ways) managers in football, that 2 AFL agrees that it because of private ownership & no-one else agrees. Oh the Irony!!!!

Fussball... First - I don't think I ever said that. I suspect your adopting the method of your loyal servant, Punter, by erroneously attributing "quotes" to me. Second - you don't see the irony of your Chairman and Board analogy in this scenario..? Third - your obsession with my opinions seems slightly at odds with your promise never to reply to my comments. Enjoy the wknd.

Sold Cech, brought in Begovic Sold Luiz, brought in Zouma Sold Mata, brought in Fabregas Sold Schurrle and de Bruyne, brought in Cuadrado, Kenedy and Salah Sold Lukaku, brought in Costa (who scored 20 goals last year) and Remy Most players sold were unhappy about being squad players so they were let go to play consistently. Thats modern football for ya. "Rebuilding does not involve topping up players at the tail end of their peak with little or no resale value. None of Eto’o, Milito or Sneijder did anything of note beyond 2010" Did Milito and Sneijder do anything of note before 2010? Inter are currently in a shambles because of their financial situation not because of Mourinho. Mourinho left Inter as soon as he won the CL and went to Real Madrid. Everyone knew it was going to happen. Benitez was brought in instantly at Inter and failed. Inter then went into financial issues. How you can blame that on Mourinho is beyond me when Inter dominated Italian football for so long. The Chelsea team Mourinho built ended up having the same backbone that won them the CL, he was first sacked by the owner because of a disagreement with how they should be playing football - not because he was shortsighted. Last season, the signings of Fabregas and Costa were seen as a masterstroke for Chelsea winning the league. Now these two players have deicded to switch off and it somehow proves that Mourinho was shortsighted? Ok.

Who ever said he was an average manager? All I was saying is that his view of short-term success over sustained long term success has set back both Inter in the past, and now Chelsea. Rebuilding does not involve topping up players at the tail end of their peak with little or no resale value. None of Eto'o, Milito or Sneijder did anything of note beyond 2010, and Inter have been a shambles up until this season where they are currently top of Serie A. Now onto Chelsea. Mourinho went all all to win the title last season at the expense of future player development. In fact, he sold a lot of these youngsters in addition to back-up including: Cech, de Bruyne, Luiz, Mata, Lukaku and Schurrle. He brought in Fabregas who appears to be finished at 28 and Costa who is a joke. He also hasn't properly replaced Terry and Ivanovic. The squad is surprisingly threadbare and that is all down to the manager.

Lets not forget that Mourinho has only lost 1 of his 14 games against Wenger, and that was in the charity shield start of this season. The same manager that is apparently better than Mourinho because Wenger can build a team. Even though Mourinho built Porto, Chelsea and Inter Milan (he brought in Etoo, Milito & Sneijder who all played crucial parts in winning the CL). Lets also forget that in the time between the last time Wenger won the league and now, Mourinho won the league with Chelsea, won the CL with Inter, won the league with Madrid and won the league again with Chelsea. Lets also conveniently forget that Mourinho holds the record for the longest unbeaten run at home across all European leagues with Chelsea. Geese, what an average manager

Just make that two sports fans. If you commented on the Cricket tab, would you expect to be treated as a soccer fan that was interloping? If I agreed with FIUL I would say it, as I did just last week.

Exactly!!! Some don't like him because he is arrogant or because he plays boring football or that after 3 seasons he loses the players, these are all opinions. What is fact is that his record shows him as one of the most successful coach of all time. This is fact.
