Green puts brakes on Gela-Mosby

North Queensland speedster Gideon Gela-Mosby has a further fight on his hands to make his NRL debut as coach Paul Green promises to show loyalty to his premiership team.

The 19-year-old could hardly have done more to impress at the NRL Auckland Nines, crossing for four tries on the weekend while showcasing his pace and skill with several standout moments.

While the Torres Strait product’s efforts earned him rave reviews, Green said he would be left at home for the side’s trip to England for the World Club Challenge against Super League champions Leeds in two weeks.

The Cowboys have managed to retain every member of 17 who defeated Brisbane in last year’s NRL decider, and Green promised to give them the chance to retain their spots in the pre-season.

“I want to reward the guys that took us to the grand final last year,” Green said.

“As long as everyone is fit, I will be giving them first crack.”

Gela-Mosby was one of the highlights for the Cowboys, who were bundled out by Melbourne in the quarter-finals.

After his first taste of first grade, the quietly spoken speedster said he felt at home on the big stage.

“It’s a really big thing for me so it feels pretty good,” he said.

“I’m feeling really good, very comfortable.”

It's 2018 now, he's made the record 39 tries in a season, that says it all, I think there's neglect for his cultural difference or something, indigenous fans have bad tastes in they're mouths, is that a factor? We don't like to think like that in this day and age but it makes you paranoid enough to cross you're mind.Anybody can see the wealth of talent he possesses, makes you criticize Australian Rugby League for being biased and even wondering about peoples sexuality at the cowboy's, all people may not socialize in the same manner, and just get over it and give him a run,I see jealousy at work, spite, give him a run or can other teams scoop him up,if Green wants to be spiteful, I've never seen a coach put emphasis on a premiership squad, at a club it has to be the best 13 players a week,I suspect it as just an excuse to sidetrack the career of someone who could a lot of records, sack Green because he sucks.

I'd be interested in seeing Winterstein playing centre instead of Linnett and giving Gela-Mosby one of the wing spots with Oneal and Feldt to fight it out for the other wing position with Moga the other centre.

Gee he looked good in full flight. Very balanced and like a lot of great speedsters was burning the opposition away while looking like he was travelling at 3/4 pace. Think Renouf or Dale Shearer. This is a smart move by Green. He should have to earn his place in the side. Being an NRL winger isn't just about having plenty of space and running fast. Still - I can't wait to see him get a start - very exciting.
