Fight previews:

Conor McGregor will meet Nate Diaz in a welterweight battle, and Holly Holm is set to defend her UFC women’s bantamweight championship against Miesha Tate at UFC 196. Join The Roar from 2pm for live coverage and round-by-round updates.

Originally scheduled to challenge Rafael dos Anjos for the lightweight title, featherweight champion Conor McGregor will have to settle for Nate Diaz after dos Anjos broke his foot just 11 days before the event.

McGregor is coming off a devastating 13-second knockout win over the former number one ranked pound-for-pound fighter Jose Aldo, becoming just the second UFC featherweight champion in the history of the division.

Nate Diaz’s return to the octagon resulted in one of the best performances of his career, outworking Michael Johnson in a fight of the night bout.

Following his win against Johnson, Diaz took the microphone and called out Conor McGregor in an expletive-filled rant. Now, he will get his shot at the Irishman.

At UFC 193 in Melbourne Holly Holm shocked the entire world after dominating Ronda Rousey for a round and a half before knocking her out with a spectacular head-kick to earn the women’s bantamweight belt.

Holm has spectacular stand-up skills, and has won several world titles in boxing and kickboxing. The champion opted not to wait for Ronda Rousey return, but to take the challenge in front of her.

Miesha Tate is riding an impressive four-fight winning streak, with her last loss coming in 2013 against Ronda Rousey in a title fight.

Tate has been gunning for another chance at UFC gold for two years, and now she will finally get another chance to hold it.

Conor McGregor will be much more comfortable fighting closer to his natural weight at welterweight, and Nate Diaz’s cardio could prove to be an issue taking this fight on short notice. Both men have great heart and spectacular boxing, but McGregor will the fitter, more precise striker.

Prediction: Conor McGregor defeats Nate Diaz via TKO in the second round

Miesha Tate has a much more sound stand up game than Ronda Rousey, and won’t be as easy a target. Holly Holm won’t be able to pick Tate apart like she did Rousey, and both women have the cardio to go five rounds. This one should be a close fight either way.

Prediction:
Miesha Tate defeats Holly Holm via split decision

Exactly. He has no right to go past Diaz for the LW title fight. Game over for that plan at this point in time. CMg has no choice to go back down to featherweight and take on both Aldo and Edgar.

Ha what makes you think he will still get a shot at RDA. He just got destroyed by the 5th ranked lightweight. He should have to earn a title shot in lightweight now by beating a few lightweights first. He never should of got a shot at RDA before a few lightweight wins.

No biggie. This was just a cash grab before McGregor fights Dos Anjos. That's the real fight. UFC would have preferred Holm won this. But Tate will do just fine against Rousey when that fight is scheduled. Was great to see the great man himself, GSP in the crowd. Would love to know what he thinks of this generation of fighters. I don't feel any possess his technical abilities.

McGregor was humble in defeat, but as Joe Rogan said, he should stay off the internet for a while.

Rousey is 2-0 against Tate, but I think a huge hole has been exposed in Ronda's game. I can't see her beating either Holm or Tate.
