WATCH: Nate Diaz defeats Conor McGregor at UFC 196

By Roar TV / Roar Guru

Nate Diaz took a win over Conor McGregor in the main event at UFC 196 on Sunday, winning by sumbission in the second round.

McGregor attempted a take down in the second round after taking a few hits from Diaz early but this backfired horribly.

Diaz gave McGregor a series of strong blows and took control of the fight, choking McGregor into submission.

The fight was McGregor’s debut at welterweight level after an immensely successful career as a featherweight.

McGregor was winning the fight and could have won every round if he had shown a bit more defence, and he ought to have taken into account Diaz' history - he doesn't get stopped that often, most going to decision. Still Diaz showed a good left hand with power and once McGregor hit the ground he was finished. The weight wasn't a factor in this one, McGregor simply didn't have to cut and he was in against a fighter whom he couldn't put away. the weight issue only becomes something to talk about from the losing side.........if McGregor had of won, would weight and 'energy' have been brought up? Best to give both fighters credit for putting on a good show

Call me old fashioned but I will never prefer this junk to Marquess of Queensberry rules boxing, particularly as most bouts end with someone getting choked like a mugger's victim.

Your assessment of the fight is as accurate as your knowledge of who the fighters were & what their natural weight classes are.

hindsight is a wonderful thing, but looks like the jump from 130 to 170 was just too big. Ironically, McGregor easily won the first round, and looked to be continuing that in the second but he got a bit cocky, started to drop his hands and trash talk to Diaz... he then got tagged , never recovered and the rest is history. Was very impressed with Nick Diaz, he was under the cosh for a while there, managed to survive and then start dishing out his own punishment. McGreggor will have to drop back down the weight classes, he has no future as a welterweight, the question is will Nick Diaz go up, cant see anyone volunteering to fight him anytime soon ;-)

Believed his own hype- destroyed by a bigger, better wrestler - not surprisingly a better boxer too!
