He’s always been a capable lower order batsman but no one thought Nathan Lyon could smash sixes at will, until today.
After missing out on selection in Australia’s Twenty20 squad for the World Cup, the spin bowler played like he was in a Twenty20 with some incredible strokeplay against Victoria.
With New South Wales needing a win to qualify for the Shield final, Lyon came in with the score at 8-242. Just 17-overs later he was out for 75 off 46 balls, belting five sixes in the process.
The superb innings ensuring the Blues had a more than competitive first innings total of 341.

I had to double check the other day - the Vics were going okay when they had NSW 8 down (8/242) but along came 'Gazza' and that he did that so quickly would've completely taken the Vics by surprise. The Vics now are 8-239, relatively even if not for Lyon. I don't see Holland and Tremain repeating Lyon's efforts. Vics batting has been very patchy of late.

A fantastic innings. Do you think Lyon was making a point to the T20 WC selectors? (I've already proved I can bowl and NOW you know I can bat as well!) They might regret not taking him to India..
