The door opens for Aaron Hall

By Dean Fisher / Roar Rookie

The Gold Coast Football Club was plagued by injuries in 2015, for instance to Jaeger O’Meara and Dion Prestia. While this hurt the side’s chances, it also provided some opportunities.

Aaron Hall was drafted by the Suns in the pre season draft at pick number 7 and the Gold Coast selection panel saw a glimpse of what the Tasmanian born teenager had to offer.

Hall hasn’t shied away from any opportunities which shows his resilience in a team full of stars. With the likes of Gary Ablett, O’Meara and Prestia surrounding him in his first few years in the AFL system, it was hard for Aaron to show his full potential.

He was played out of position and didn’t have the opportunity to show his true colours and show what he can bring into the Suns line-up.

With 61 games, and 55 goals under his belt, he has learnt from players such as Ablett what it takes to be an out and out star of the game. Now that Aaron has his opportunity he has taken it with both hands.

He recorded 18 disposals and a whopping 16 tackles in his second NAB challenge game against the West Coast Eagles. He accrued 29 disposals and seven inside 50s in his third NAB encounter against the Adelaide Crows.

He is showing signs of what is to come in the 2016 season.

Hall has always had the capabilities and skills to be at an elite level, but he hasn’t quite had the opportunity. Now with a few select gun midfielders out of the Suns line-up, he gets his chance – and he will take that with both hands.

Mark my words AFL community, there is going to be a newfound Aaron Hall this season, and it will hard to look away from your TV screens!

And what about Adam Saad? He grabbed his opportunity with both hands and was incredibly impressive all season long. He has a massive aerobic engine and can only get better

The other guy who grabbed his opportunity was Touk Miller. He outshone many teammates who went much higher in the draft.

Great if Hall's defensive intensity has lifted. That seemed to be the missing part of his game last year. He certainly knew how to find the ball.

By saying he lacked opportunities and was played out of position, I think you are being way to kind to Hall. Up until the end of last season, he was probably one of the least intense players I have seen. After there were mid season whispers that he could be on the chopping block at seasons end, he really turned things around. I give him a lot of credit for that, which probably shows what he has been capable of all along.
