Cheap Seats 91: The Anzac Day footy weekend special edition

By The Cheap Seats Podcast / Roar Guru

Brett McKay and Ryan O’Connell have made a return to the studio for a Anzac Day footy edition of the Cheap Seats podcast.

The podcast’s regulars have come through in style, flooding the boys with #AskTheCheapSeats questions and avoiding any prospect of awkward small talk.

Topics covered include:
– Anzac Day footy
– The evident lack of Super Rugby on Anzac Day
– The state of the Australian Super teams, the strength of the Kiwis, the new format, and neutral referees
– Penalty tries in the NRL
– The location of the NRL grand final
– The new stadium deals in Sydney
– Olympic uniforms
– And just how ridiculous Kobe Bryant’s farewell NBA game became.

As always, you can get us on Twitter at @CheapSeatsPod, on Soundcloud, iTunes, and the TuneIn radio app.

And stay cheap – you never know when we’ll be back!

Yeah, but it's not close to ME! I'm the only person that matters!

Brett, I think the term you were looking for is "exhibition match"…? Nothing worse than sport with no intensity, tennis used to do a lot of it, skins golf, visiting club soccer teams… And Ryan, thanks for the weekend in Sydney invite. I'll co-ordinate with Digger. I like Marmite on my toast, he's a bacon and eggs man. Although it may be safer to make our own.

Another good podcast gents. Super Rugby on Anzac Day would be brilliant. Don't forget Newcastle will host the Sea Eagles on Anzac Day this year in the NRL as well. Since when has Homebush been a pain to get to? It is in the geographical centre of Sydney, not everyone lives in the CBD. Moore Park is near impossible to access. Sydney Olympic Park will soon have light rail running through it, there is a train station in front of the stadium, plenty of parking in surrounding suburbs 5-10 minutes away. ANZ Stadium definitely deserves the bulk of funding. Only the Sydney Sevens, Waratahs, Sydney FC and Sydney Roosters play out of the SFS compare that with the Olympic Stadium which boasts the Bulldogs, Rabbitohs, NRL Grand Final, State of Origin, Wallabies, finals for 5.5 of the 8.5 NRL Sydney teams and also Wests Tigers, Dragons and Eels regular season fixtures from time to time as tenants.

Oh look the cheap seats return like a pair of flighty courtesans who spend weeks in a bubble bath eating chocolate biscuits before descending to us mere mortals with a podcast... I jest, I jest. Though I am confused about the issues with Homebush given it's pretty much in the geographic middle of Sydney if not the actual CBD (though the C in that part is extremely debatable given it's in the eastern most suburbs).
