Marler risks sanction over Dwyer Tweet

England prop Joe Marler has risked sanction from the Rugby Football Union after using social media to direct an obscene remark at former Wallabies coach Bob Dwyer.

Marler used Twitter to call Dwyer a w***** in response to his claim that Dan Cole scrummaged illegally in the first Test against the Wallabies last Saturday. The tweet was quickly deleted.

The RFU has strict guidelines on the use of social media and Marler, a member of the Elite Player Squad, now faces a reprimand.

“How anyone could have allowed Dan Cole to scrummage the way he did was absolutely beyond me,” Dwyer had said after England’s 39-28 win in Brisbane.

Marler, who ruled himself out of England’s tour to Australia following a troubled end to the season, responded to Dwyer on Twitter.

“Bob Dwyer is a w*****,” Marler wrote on his official Twitter account, @JoeMarler.

Marler himself was accused of scrummaging illegally by Dwyer during the build-up to last autumn’s crucial World Cup group game against the Wallabies.

England subsequently endured a torrid day at the set piece, but having dispatched Australia in the first Test last weekend they could clinch an historic series victory Down Under if they prevail in Melbourne on Saturday.

Marler was fined 20,000 and given a two-week ban for calling Wales prop Samson Lee “gypsy boy” during the RBS 6 Nations game between the two sides.

I think using the cockney rhyming slang merchant banker is too generous for someone who successfully manipulated a referee at the RWC now has the gall to accuse the same referee of being incompetent and, clearly yet again, seeks to intimidate the next referee. The headline in the SMH article reporting Dwyer's comments even had the nerve to include 'Joubert put on notice' in the title. Aussie rugby has not exactly earned any dignity brownie points in the past couple of weeks., what with Grey's gamesmanship, Hoiles, the Fox promos, Dwyer's attempt to intimidate Joubert, and the Olympic-class whinging.

Succinct and to the point, Marler has simply stated what every Englishman thinks. Unfortunately Dwyers standard comments will likely have the desired effect especially as the most notorious 'homer' ref is on the whistle. Australia strong favourites for this test.

I think he has been given a rough deal he was actually full of praise for Bob Dwyer's generous comments and what he really tried to say that he thought Mr Dwyer was a master debater and unfortunately Twitter truncated his comment.

he has issues , serious issues. such actions will only keep him off the England team. Jones will not risk the team's reputation by taking him in , unless he improves mentally.
