Frizell makes a Blue out of himself

With an injury to incumbent NSW Blues second rower Boyd Cordner, St George hard man Tyson Frizell did more than just fill in during his absence for State of Origin.

With the series on the line, the Blues headed to Maroons territory with ambition and desire. While they might not have been able to send the decider to ANZ Stadium, they unraveled a hidden gem that’s been right under their noses.

Frizell sat out Origin last year as a development player, and much like Josh Jackson before him, found his way to a Blue debut the next year.

The hard-running backrower has shown great form for the Dragons this season and was unlucky to miss out in Game 1. But he got his shot in the second game and made the most of it.

Firstly, the effort to chase Dane Gagai for the best part of 80 metres and nearly pull off a try-saving ankle tap needs to be commended. It’s that type of will to win that NSW need to have in their ranks.

He was the first Blue on the try-scorers sheet, running off the hip of an Adam Reynolds offload to score under the posts.

He would have had two tries, if not for the fingertips of Michael Jennings, denying the Blues a try that might have given them the lead.

He ran with purpose all night, and definitely earned himself a selection for Game 3, and a few Origins in the future.
