DIY player ratings: Wallabies vs England third Test

By The Roar / Editor

The third Test and the series between the Wallabies and England came to an end last night and disappointingly for Wallabies fans it was a 3-0 win to the English in the end.

The final stanza of the series was certainly thrilling as the home side and the visitors spent much of the night neck and neck, only for England to triumph 44-40 in a high-scoring affair.

The Wallabies played some quality rugby at times throughout the series, but failing to get a win in any of the three matches, when all were at home, is something Australian fans will be mightily disappointed with.

Just how disappointed are you? Or are you a bit more optimistic? Here’s your chance to let us know in The Roar’s DIY Player Ratings for the third Test.

If you’ve not done our DIY player ratings before, it’s quite an easy process. Hit up the form below and give us your rating for each player from 1 to 10, based on their performance last night. We’ll keep track of the results and publish our findings tomorrow morning.

You’re free to rate players as you like, with 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest, but if you’re keen for a bit more detail than that, we leave you in the capable hands of The Roar’s editor Patrick Effeney who put this guide together last year.

1. Had he not played, the team would have been better off. Negatively affected the performance of the side. May God have mercy on his soul.
2. Anonymous. Was he even there?
3. Did some things that you expect a player to be able to do, but did a whole bunch of other things that sucked.
4. Was passable in patches, but not up to standard in a squad of such depth.
5. Performed his role without anything really noticeable happening.
6. Good
7. Pretty good, actually
8. Very good
9. Excellent
10. Might as well have been John Eales

It is a difficult proposition, What do you score a guy that was invisible? It doesn't necessarily mean he was doing a bad job. The plan may have been for him to stand there and intimidate the English Backs.

Judge him in the roles he was playing, not the jersey number. So - #7 then #6 Any deficiencies in the 7 and 8 roles in the 2nd half are Palu and Hooper's.

Slipper is the starting loosehead in the strongest scrum in Aus. What else could you reasonably expect in your top LHP?

I gave Phipps a 3 whereas I rated Palu a 2. At least Phipps tried to be good despite being awful. Palu has the ticker of a coward's corpse

100% agree. Although Foley has had a terrible series kicking and decision making wise he is redeemable. Phipps does not possess the basic skill set to stand out in super rugby let alone take the next step and be satisfactory at international standard. How did he get a whole game? I'm worried all the positives of Cheika 2015 will be undone by state loyalty.

Cheika - 2 Larkham - 2 Ledesma - 3 Grey - 1 It's been a while since we've had a national team that has looked so poorly coached in basic fundamentals, and so poorly organised.

Is zero a rating?

I don't agree. McMahon was good in the line out. Okay in the scrum. Deadly on kickoffs. Ran hard with the ball. Tackled hard and hit rucks. Compare him to poor Cliffy Palu's performance!

I've been saying this about Phipps for 3 years. His passing is generally of a poor standard. But to give his due, there is no player on the park who works harder than he does. He never shirks a tackle and is a reliable defender. He's always backing up. His play around the ground cannot be faulted. It's just his passing and kicking that sucks.

Thanks for the post, Paddy. When can we start rating the coach?

My issues: why was Frisby not utilised with 25 to go?! Phipps once again too slow, the lag in delivery killed us. Horne should have come off with 20 for Naiavaryo, we needed a bigger ball runner! Haylett Petty played brilliantly! Future core player! -- Comment from The Roar's iPhone app.

By not saying he played really well? If all he wants to do is run the ball then he should go to league.

I gave Kuridrani a one. He's a liability all over the park

I agree to some extent. I think the fact that Slipper is the alternative fills me with more dread. I'm not an all is doom and gloom type but there's some awful lack of ability in this side.
