Men's 200m final result, highlights: Usain Bolt wins third consecutive gold

Men’s 200m sprint final result

BOLT DOES THE TRIPLE! WINS GOLD!

Gee… Bolt just led from start to finish to win in 19.78, a poor time by Bolt’s standards, but considering the conditions and where everyone else finished, that was easy.

GOLD: Usain Bolt – 19.78
SILVER: Andre De Grasse – 20.02
BRONZE: Christophe Lemaitre – 20.12

That’s just how it’s done. Typically a slow starter, Bolt led from start to finish, and although he might have lagged a little bit close to the finish, he ended up winning by three metres or more.

Simply, he’s the best.

It looked as through he was running his own race.

Andre De Grasse a clear second, with the blanket finish for third, with France’s Christophe Lemaitre running a good last 20 metres to take bronze.

Men’s 200m final times
1 Usain Bolt – 19.78s
2 Andre De Grasse – 20.02s
3 Christophe Lemaitre – 20.12s
4 Adam Gemili – 20.12s
5 Churandy Martina – 20.13s
6 LaShawn Merritt – 20.19s
7 Alonso Edward – 20.23s
8 Ramil Guliyev – 20.43s

Race preview

Usain Bolt will run his final individual Olympic race today in the men’s 200m final, competing against Canada’s Andre De Grasse for the gold medal.

It should be a cracking race, and will determine whether Bolt can win his eighth gold medal gold medal at an Olympic Games. Join us for live updates as Usain Bolt shoots for gold in the men’s 200m final from 11:10am AEST.

Bolt has also stated that he believes he’s in good enough shape to break the 200m world of 19.19, which he set in Berlin seven years ago. It would be a hell of a race, but the Jamaican believes he’s the only man in the field capable of running such a time.

He’s probably right.

His main competition will come in the form of red hot American LaShawn Merritt, and Canada’s Andre De Grasse. Bolt and De Grasse shared an Olympic moment in the semi-final, as the Canadian pushed the defending champion all the way to the finish line, as Bolt beamed in response.

It was a fantastic moment for spectators, but the vision of Bolt cruising to the finish line makes you think that the great Usain has a bit left in the tank for this race.

One of the big surprises was Justin Gatlin missing out on the final. Whatever you say about the man and his past, it’s a shame that rivalry won’t have another chapter written here.

Look for Bolt to get out of the box slowly, as he gets those long legs pumping, but take the lead around halfway through the race and power away from there.

His top speed is without doubt the best in the field, and it’s hard to see anyone beating him here.

Join us for live updates of the defending champion Usain Bolt running for his eighth gold medal in the men’s 200m final, as we follow another bit of Olympic history from Rio.

Starting list for men’s 200m final:
1 Ramil Guliyev – Turkey
2 Adam Gemili – Great Britain
3 Alonso Edward – Panama
4 Andre De Grasse – Canada
5 LaShawn Merritt – United States
6 Usain Bolt – Jamaica
7 Christophe Lemaitre – France
8 Churandy Martina – Netherlands

So Chris, for you to downgrade phelps efforts and downgrade the medley is crazy.

Your forgetting the relays, in sprinting. 100m relay and 4x400m. Marion Jones was gonna once do the 400m relay, she pulled out in the end but she ran a few 400m. Bolt can win at least 3 golds per meet. You seem to underestimate the difficulty it is to be a medley swimmer in swimming, especially in the modern era. All 4 strokes are so different.

Idiot, and your name Maroon Blood says it all. Biased QLD'er Mundine played in an era with far more competition and depth for 5-8 spots than now. He was only 25 when he left, he was as good as Barett or Anasta or Matt Johns types. Sven Otke was one of his first fights. He fought Otke/Kessler/Shane Mosley/Siacca/Antwun Echols/Daniel Geale/Danny Green, all class fighters, You are a troll. And he would have been a handy rugby union player to. What you think SBW is a credible boxer by the sounds of it.

Phelps greatest swimmer, Bolt greatest sprinter / athlete. Can't really compare them. Saying Phelps is greater because of number of gold is just crazy. No way it would be possible for a sprinter to win that many gold. Only have 1 race over 100m and 1 over 200m in Athletics. They are both phenomenal. In a lot of ways Bolt is the Michael Jordan of Athletics. Jordan was bigger than the game, when he retired worldwide ratings of basketball would have dropped. In many ways Bolt is the same. More people want to turn up to simply see Bolt than anything else on the athletics track, and athletics will be much poorer once he retires.

Actually to put it in perspective, Australia's 1968 Olympian Peter Norman's time of 20.06 would have got him bronze today.

Mundine is a Joke. Dodged class fighters for years and is not even on the same planet as Maywether, Paq, Kahn, Alvarez etc

You must be trolling by putting Mundine in the same remote neighbourhood as the others. Fair League player, a couple of Origins but not good enough for the Kangaroos (inspite of his claims that there were other reasons behind him not getting picked). Boxing? Did win a world title, yes, which of the three organisations escapes me. Beat a lot of mugs on the way and when Sven Ottke laid him out it was the only time in the history of Australian sport the majority of australians cheered for the German! Nice troll....you got me.

Micheal Phelps greatest individual modern sportsman ever (since end of world war 2 last 70 odd years) Usain Bolt no 2, Micheal Jordan 3, Kelly Slater 4. Women, 1)Jackie Joyner Kersie 2)Serena Williams 3) Navratalova Greatest modern All round ever, maybe Bo Jackson/or Anthony Mundine is very high up (State of origin league level/world champion boxer/would be at least currie cup standard in rugby union(surely he would have been as good as Pat McCabe as a 12/or as good as someone like Duncan McCrae at 10, or Mike Harris at 15, if he'd of played rugby union). Mundine was also a good basketball player got offered a tryout with the sydney kings.
