DIY Player Ratings: Wallabies vs All Blacks Bledisloe Cup game 1

By The Roar / Editor

On Saturday night the Wallabies went up against the All Blacks for the first time since the two nations met in the final match of the Rugby World Cup in 2015.

» Match Report: NZ smash Australia
» LORD: The Wallabies can’t pass, catch or tackle
» Five talking points
» What changes should the Wallabies make?
» WATCH: All the highlights

The Wallabies came off second best then, and it was the same result again last night – with an even more emphatic scoreline of 42-8.

That makes for four straight defeats this year on home soil for the Wallabies, after going 0-3 in the Test series against England earlier in 2016.

Simply put, things aren’t exactly going great for rugby in Australia at the moment. And that’s being nice about it.

It’s time for a cold hard dose of reality – Roarers, we want you to rate the performances of the Wallabies players, and no, we don’t expect you to be kind!

If you’ve not done our DIY player ratings before, it’s a simple enough process. Hit up the form below and rate each player from 1 to 10 based on their performance last night. We’ll keep track of the results and publish our findings tomorrow morning.

You’re free to rate players as you like with 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest, but if you’re after a bit more detail than that, we leave you in the capable hands of The Roar’s editor Patrick Effeney who put this guide together last year.

1. Had he not played, the team would have been better off. Negatively affected the performance of the side. May God have mercy on his soul.
2. Anonymous. Was he even there?
3. Did some things that you expect a player to be able to do, but did a whole bunch of other things that sucked.
4. Was passable in patches, but not up to standard in a squad of such depth.
5. Performed his role without anything really noticeable happening.
6. Good
7. Pretty good, actually
8. Very good
9. Excellent
10. Might as well have been John Eales

Coach of the year was nonsense. Had Joubert had a better view in quarter final Wallabies lose to SCOTLAND!!!! The Rugby Championship was only half a tournament and ABs ate the wallabies lunch after the rusty game at ANZ. Getting a scrum back to international standard was part of his job so hardly an over achievement. Australian rugby is beset by issues because small improvement is seen as the start of a new era of glory.

Think he's saving that for this week. Mind you, had Foley played that well in a winning performance there'd be a lot of complaining over an 8 as well. These ratings can be very fickle sometimes. I mean, not a 9 because the defence was poor? Please. It's an individual rating isn't it? The whole point is to assess the player, not the opponent.

I rated them on the info given for ranking numbers. Also the Wallabies were not all 3s. I think my ranking is about right. Australias starting 15=about 70 and NZs about 110 if you include replacements like Phipps and Coles. Thats about right imo.

Kick at goal well. He was very good. Not an 11 or even a 9 imo. The defence was pathetic at times and that made him look better than he was a times but still he was very good. Not sure I know what was so mind blowing.

And his huge inovation is not known to be a mistake you out and out liar. The Australian backrow was considered excellent, not a mistake and was described by people such as James Haskell and John Eales, amoungst others, as the best on the planet. Honestly, I dont care for people who rewrite history because they are angry at whats happening now. You list the teams that got the better of Australias scrum. No team did. Its pathetic that you try and undermine Australua in 2015 after they beat EVERY team they faced. Every single team. Oh but they got lucky...AGAINST EVERY TEAM?! Grow up. The kool aid? No Im just not going to be stup1d enough to rubbish a team that beat everyone they played in some sad retrospective tantrum because the team isnt doing well now. Only in Australia would they try to chip away at their own teams success. Won RC, beat every team they played and made the WC final and you try to take that away? WTF for? Which team was better last year? NZ and.... Absolutely pathetic and sad. The Wallabies would get more support in NZ.

Geoff. They made the WC final after 1000s of decisions in 6 games. Not 1 decision in 1 game. I understand in Australia you love to hate the Wallabies so much you even go to the extent of retrospectively undermining the team from previous years but I dont because Im sane. The Wallabies in 2015 were easily the 2nd best team in the world and no matter how much you want to lay the boot in or take that away from them, you cant change history.

Well whos scrum was better? Not NZs, not SAs, not Engs, not Wales etc. It was arguably the best last year but hey, you know best. I just wish you would base it on something, I did.

Attack against a proper defensive line. Some of the gaps he ran through were bigger than the holes that Dale dug in the Castle.

'He was a revelation at wing. He always gets defended at halfback because of his speed, fitness and defence, but he doesn’t have the reliable decision making and passing in that position. But he played wing better than our wingers, why not play him there?' I always thought that players like Phipps, Burgess and Holmes who were pigeon holed in to playing scrum half despite having poor passes should have been played elsewhere as they had the right attributes. Warringah played Holmes at 12 but it was too late to rebuild his pro career there

8 for Barret???? What do you have to do to get a 9 or 10. Close to an 11 performance. (10 + 1 for the turbo he has trapped to his bum.)

They were playing rugby from another era, but I'm only 50 so I'm not sure which one.

It's interesting that you think he's a great man-manager. I don't really see that. Great man-managers train their teams, give them the skills to deal with the job, work out a plan with the team, and then, crucially, give that team the authority and ability to improvise when things don't quite go to plan. That's not what I'm seeing for the Wallabies. Skills are shaky, plan is one dimensional, and nobody seems to be a leader on the field. That is not good, never mind great, man management.

Yeah, a ridiculous claim about having the best scrum. The Wallabies went from having a very poor to decent scrum at international level but that's it. They were clearly beaten by the Scot and Argie scrums and were shaded by the AB scrum in the finals.
