Titans fans and players have every right to feel aggrieved

By Gazbo / Roar Guru

The Gold Coast Titans have every right to feel aggrieved after the referees put in one of their worst ever performances in the Broncos versus Titans Match.

The referees and the Bunker didn’t make just one, but four highly contentious decisions at crucial stages of the match which swung the momentum in the Broncos favour.

It should be a pre-requisite for a former player to be in the Bunker at all times as they have played the game before and have far more knowledge and a feel for the game when it comes to contentious rulings.

It doesn’t matter how much money the NRL invests in video technology and a Bunker, if the people operating it continue to make mistakes and if their interpretations are inconsistent the results will be poor.

For Tony Archer to come out the following morning on the Triple M Radio Station and defend his referees was admirable, but fans are looking for accountability and Archer was only prepared to admit to one error at that stage.

As for the players if they get a poor rub of the green their season is over once we get to the finals, so whatever action if any is taken against the referees is all too late.

As a Broncos fan watching the match I couldn’t help but feel sorry for the Titans and how every contentious decision seemed to go against them.

It’s kind of ironic when you think about it, the more that the NRL strives for perfection and over scrutinises the game of rugby league the more that it ruins it as a spectacle.

If only they’d revert to one referee and have the Bunker rule on tries and only tries, the better off the game of rugby league would be for it.

"The Telegraph doesn’t discriminate anyways, Every club is fair game!" They do discriminate along state lines Muzz. That was the example I just gave. That was the point of our discussion...state lines vs no state lines....by media and punters influencing the NRL.

I read the Courier Mail online. It's no different. The Telegraph doesn't discriminate anyways, Every club is fair game! Ditto Gould who was fixated on the NSW captain for some time. I'm not sure if you're being serious. If so, you care about the state rivalry way more than me.

Re: The Titans...see above. Old ground. I can tell you living on the GC which is a rugby league heartland that the Titans struggle for numbers because with 3 or 4 QLD'ers in the 17, they have not been embraced as a QLD team by the majority of RL fans up here. You won't read about this in the papers. The Titans have not been focusing on nurturing local young talent and keep bringing even their second tier players from NSW. Maybe you would be happy to have a Roosters team full of QLD players, because you purchase a lot of ready to go imports, but QLD teams, namely the Broncos and Cowboys have a history of developing their own talent. Hopefully the Titans/NRL invest locally as part of their long term plan here else they be on an eternal NRL drip feed and not get their supporter base to the next level. "The Courier Mail is no different, VOR. " You don't get the Courier Mail on the Eastern beaches Muzz. 90% of the rugby league media in this country is out of Sydney. Queenslanders get that 90%...you don't get the 10% from Brisbane. Your statement that the "Courier Mail is no different" is therefore irrelevant when it comes to the bias that is perpetuated from the SydneyCentric media. And you definitely don't have commentators biased towards QLD teams calling the Roosters matches. Your paradigm is completely different from a Queensland league supporter. Gus champions NSW during his Origin commentary for the first 60 minutes and then you don't hear from him in the call once the game is out of NSW reach. He bleeds blue. There was a half a dozen bad calls (some terrible) against the Broncos last Friday but he did not comment on one of them. Gus is bias. You know that. Wait for the Cronulla game and we can chat.

The Courier Mail is no different, VOR. Let's get back on track What state line? The game was between 2 teams based in Queensland. Why would Gould care who won that game?

Muzz, Re: Video footage of Roberts, apparently the pub had damage to a bunch of it's comms and it's rear security camera's where the altercation took place went down in the big storms they had.... lucky for Roberts I guess. http://blogs.abc.net.au/queensland/2016/06/an-icon-of-the-brisbane-pub-scene-is-no-more-the-100-year-old-fig-tree-at-the-front-of-the-normanby-hotel-came-crashing-dow.html ..but you got off track mate. I was responding to your admonishment that state lines does not facilitate bias in the NRL. ...so I gave you a convenient example from today's press. Negative press and bias in commentating happens regularly whenever the Cows or Broncos play Sydney teams...that's just the way it is. You know it.

Do you expect anything less from the Telegraph? 8 weeks and $125k fine for being a harmless goose was a bit excessive wouldn't you say!? Meanwhile Roberts calls the barmaid a far king mole and spits on the security guard and it's business as usual.Let's not forget that he's also a serial offender. I wonder what happened to that CCTV footage. I'm guessing it's at Andrew Gees house. There are different rules for the Broncos, it's always been that way and good luck to them. Check back once your Cows are eliminated courtesy of a Titanic style reaming.

Don't cross the line to join the tin foil hat brigade Muzz, it's a long way back. Was the Chooks demise engineered as well? Was Mitchell Pearce the victim of a canine honey-pot? "Muzz said | September 13th 2016 @ 6:15am | ! Report Sotherners??? lol. F ark SOO! It’s a disruptive 3 game circus that you’re obsessed about. I couldn’t give a rat’s who won that game. ditto Panthers v Bulldogs. This has nothing to do with state lines." Check out the leading story on the Telegraph today...obsessed....state lines...and I thought I was in my own little bubble....turns out the Sydneycentric media do see the NRL along state lines. Funny that. "Eggs and boilovers: Queensland’s gone troppo IT’s all going south up north. Following the Cowboys’ egg scandal, Broncos players laid into each other at training on Tuesday, suggesting the pressure of finals football is starting to tell."

No VOR, i got your point. I don't care who wins once my team is eliminated. I just want to lick my wounds and be entertained. Friday nights outcome was engineered!

You missed the points Muzz….like your Chooks… It’s got nothing to do with Titan’s being a QLD club even though it has 3 or 4 Queenslander’s in the 17. It has everything to do with which team is the greater threat to Sydney clubs and draws the greatest amount of critique…and historically that is the Broncos..been like that since Alfie was a boy….you mob hate them. So many punters on here going for an underdog with plenty of NSW talent in it..Hayne, Peats, Ryan James, Bird etc against the Broncos is clearly plausible. I’m sitting on the GC as I write so you can keep the map.

Ha, ha.... c'mon mate. You love it. But seriously, you Southerners on the whole have a special disliking for the Broncos..that's no secret. All you gotta do is read the articles on here and listen to bias broadcasting...for example Ray Hadley doesn't try to hide it. So why so many hang ups about a great rugby league club? You're deluded if you reckon state allegiances of fans does not play out in the NRL banter on here.

They just had the wrong eye shut for the first 2 minutes then realised their mistake :) 5 minutes with one bad decision against 75 minutes with a lot of bad decisions. You can cut it any way you like it was atrocious refereeing and they need to be punished for it.

Luckily the Bunker wasn't invented to get more decisions right otherwise you would have to call it a miserable failure . It's main function when introduced was to speed up the process by having access to all the camera feeds and not relying on the TV director to find the right replay . So on speeding things up it probably has a pass mark . My idea was that the bunker was only to be used to overturn a "howler" or report an act of foul play . Thats why we reverted to the referee making an onfield decision ! If there is not glaring evidence to overturn , the decision stands and we play on . I think it started this way and was working ok , but as the season has gone on we find the Bunker interfering more and more and becoming more and more " forensic" in their rulings .Double movement and grounding rulings in slo mo ... c'mon . What's going on ? They overturned that scrum feed on Friday night out of the blue with no clear evidence . I would rather they stayed out of general play altogether . To stick their beak in on a random basis is really bad for the game on so many levels . The NRL seems to think the more eyes on the game the better but I'm not convinced, on what I've seen in 2016 . I thought the concept of rules was to avoid "interpretations" . To me the more eyes the more opinions and hence why we seem to have struggled for any consistency this season .

Spot on Barry ! The play begins when the player gets to his feet . A ref should know the rules despite it being a moot point in this case because it was foul play .

What about the fans of the other 15 clubs that don't agree with you and as they are not Bronco fans they have no incentive to comment? Did you see Pearson get pushed when jumping for the bomb in the first couple of minutes, or is that one you missed along with the Bunker and refs?

I don't watch channel 9 so I didn't hear what they were saying, I didn't need to hear what they were saying. Only Broncos fan boys couldn't see what fans of the other 15 clubs saw.
