India vs New Zealand: International cricket, second ODI live scores

India continued their demolition job of New Zealand in Dharamsala and will be aiming to do the same as their ODI series moves to Delhi for the second match. Join The Roar for live scores from 7pm (AEDT).

India have been rolling through their home series against New Zealand like the two sides are on a completely different level – and they are.

After a 3-0 demolition job in the Test series, they didn’t put a foot wrong in the first ODI to take victory by a crushing six wickets with 101 balls to spare.

On a pitch without many gremlins in it, the Kiwi top order faltered and stumbled its way to something resembling a competitive T20 score, with only Tom Latham holding his own. Unfortunately, it was a one-day international.

Latham scored 79 runs, while the only other batsman to make it past 15 was bowler Tim Southee who crunched 55 from 45 balls, getting New Zealand to within sight of 200, only for them to be eventually knocked over for 190.

At one point the Blackcaps were 7 for 65, so that they reached the score they did is something of a miracle, but looking beyond that it was never going to be good enough, even if the pitch was helpful for the bowlers.

With Umesh Yadav and Hardik Pandya bowling fantastically, taking 5 for 62 from 15 overs between them, and Amit Mishra picking up three wickets later in the innings, the Kiwis were always going to be up against it.

India then came out to bat and calmly passed the total in 33.1 overs with six many wickets in hand. It’s scary to think where they would have ended up had they batted first.

The only Kiwi bowler that went at under three runs per over was Mitchell Santner, who bowled six overs without taking a wicket for 18 runs, with everyone else going at over five runs per over.

Tim Southee was dreadful with the ball, wasting the new pill as Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane made a steady start before Virat Kohli made 85 at better than a run a ball to ice the game.

Prediction
India are a juggernaut at home and while the toss will always have a fair bit to do with the result of ODI games on the sub-continent, it’s hard to see the hosts losing to a New Zealand side that haven’t looked up to it all tour.

The results for the tourists could well get uglier before this tour and series is over.
