All set for Pakistan Super League season two

By AMZ / Roar Rookie

Is everyone ready for the next edition of the Pakistan Super League?

The previous season was a success for the Pakistan Cricket Board as they organised a colourful and competitive event in the UAE, making money and a number of fans around the world.

But this time it is different. Yes, the final of the tournament is scheduled be played in Lahore, Pakistan. This is special because international teams have not played in Pakistan due to security concerns since 2009.

This has had negative financial impacts for cricket in Pakistan, not to mention depriving of the most cricket-mad countries of their favourite sport.

The Pakistan Super League 2017 draft was held in the last week of October 2016 and guess what, big names are a part of the league, because bigger the better.

Big name cricketers attract fans to the game and add prestige to the tournament.

However the league is not bigger. It still has only five teams, but there is a plan to introduce another team in the next edition.

The new signings include Brendon McCullum signed by Lahore Qalandars. Darren Sammy is the new captain for Peshawar Zalmi and Sammy was one of the star players of the previous tournament.

He will play alongside the Pakistani boom boom batsman Shahid Afridi, one of the world’s most recognisable limited overs cricketers. The previous champion Islamabad United have the Aussie batsman Shane ‘Thor’ Watson and will be led by Misbah Ul Haq.

Karachi Kings have taken the boss Chris Gayle from Lahore Qalandars for the upcoming season. Quetta Gladiators are charged and ready under the legend Vivian Richards and star player Kevin Pietersen will lead the side on the pitch.

Let’s see how things go until February of 2017 when the next edition of the Pakistan Super League will begin. What do you think Roarers? Will the tournament be a success? And will it represent the resurgence of cricket in Pakistan?

Paul D thanks for your comment. No clue of match fixing or spot fixing was found in the first edition. Players had no complain about payment issues neither was there a terrorist attack. So, can we call it a success by your standards ? ? Ok ?

Games need to be clear of match fixing, players actually need to get paid, on time, and obviously no team buses getting shot up. Show us those 3 things and the tournament can be called a success regardless of the quality of the cricket.
