Roar Forum: What changes should the Wallabies make for Scotland?

By The Roar / Editor

One down, four to go. The Wallabies have taken a 32-8 win over Wales to kick-off their Spring Tour campaign, but things aren’t about to get any easier.

Over the next four weeks, the Wallabies come up against Scotland, France, Ireland and finally England – hoping desperately to get the win in all four and claim a grand slam.

All the wash-up from Wales vs Wallabies:

» Re-live the match with our live blog

The Wallabies performed admirably against the Wales, but really, should never have been in doubt to record a big win against team not only below them in the rankings but also hit by injury and the absence of their head coach.

There is, as they say, always room for improvement, and if Australia wants to make it five from five over the next month then a few changes here and there could certainly help.

So, what changes should the Wallabies make before they come up against Scotland in a week’s time?

For the answer to that all-important question, Roarers, we’re turning things over to you.

What changes need to be made ahead of the Test against Wales? Who fared well, who flopped? Who deserves another chance, and whose time is up? Who are Australia’s best options waiting in the wings? In short: who comes in, who goes out?

There will, we bet, be a variety of opinions on the matter, and in this week’s Roar Forum you are invited to let us know in the comments what yours is.

For your reference, here’s the full team from the Test against Wales:

Wallabies team vs Wales
1 Scott Sio, 2 Stephen Moore, 3 Sekope Kepu, 4 Rory Arnold, 5 Adam Coleman, 6 David Pocock, 7 Michael Hooper, 8 Lopeti Timani, 9 Nick Phipps, 10 Bernard Foley, 11 Henry Speight, 12 Reece Hodge, 13 Tevita Kuridrani, 14 Dane Haylett-Perry, 15 Israel Folau.

Replacements: 16 Tolu Latu, 17 James Slipper, 18 Allan Ala’alatoa, 19 Rob Simmons, 20 Scott Fardy, 21 Nick Frisby, 22 Quade Cooper, 23 Sefa Naivalu

What changes do you want to see for the next Test? Let the debate begin!

When Phipps does one thing right everyone gives the guy a break and says he has a good game. Let us be honest... he was above average for his standards, but his passing and speed to the breakdown are just pathetic. Genia to Start, Frisby to the bench and start QC.

Getting a bit weird and stalky aren't you Chivas, running around picking me up on comments from other threads seems like you are more interested in having a go at me than countering my argument. You need to get a life, me thinks.

I know - let's make these changes to our team that just flogged the fifth ranked team in the world... or not! Zero unforced changes in the starting 15.

Foley will be stuffed by the time the Super season starts next year and Quade Cooper will be fit and raring to go.

I think Chiek has decided that QC/Ginea and the Foley/Phipps Combo's Work. I suspect the other two permutations have problems. So, If Ginea Starts, we are likely to see QC I think QC is better in attack, but a bit dodgy in defense. Foley a bit more balanced but that may not be a good thing if you are looking for attacking spark. Well rounded #10's are hard to find, The NRL has most of the prospects. The Northern Hemisphere seem to do better at finding them. McMahon at 6 exposes the lineout, Chiek's love affair with Mumm will continue. The day of The Jackal is over. Mumm and Hoops ("Mumps") are going to be the Flankers for the foreseeable future. I don't like it. Timani or McMahon at 8 I think Timani may have staked his Claim to the position.

WP Nell Broke Sio's Arm in the world cup with his scrum mechanics. He got punked by Wales on Saturday. Expect a repeat performance. It is a pity because he is proficient at everything else. Scotland's Greys will rule the lineout. Coleman needs a Simmons, Mumm or Fardy as another primary target. If it isn't Fardy , we will need a genuine jackall in the back row. Hooper ain't one and he is 'coaches pet', so that leaves Timani out for Pocock or MacMahon. Does anyone know what happened to Pocock? DHP and Folau to swap.

good points on Hansen. However I would not call Cheika’s a meltdown. He was calm and spoke with an even voice. Surely a meltdown implies an emotional breakdown and people are not calm when that happens. Also factually Cheika did not take up the entire match conference with ‘ble@tings’ I assume you meant. Sure the media focused on the small part but the majority was boring and not discussed.

You would think Cheika would just run pretty much the same team. Maybe Genia on the bench for Frisby, and will likely have to put McMahon in for Pocock if he was concussed enough to leave the field, or maybe put Mumm back in now that he has served his penance.

Mcmahon to 6 in place of injured Pocock. Naiyavoro to left wing and Speight to drop out.

stillmissit - you must have missed something. There is no way Frisby was better than Phipps against Wales nor against All Blacks. Phipps was good in both games. So he made a mistake, which player doesnt

I agree PeterK. Mumm should be left out of the 23. But don't hold your breath...Cheika might have other ideas.

Davo, Abbott's best place would be the bench - bench seat waiting for bus out of Australia.
