Each Friday I will be taking you on a trip down memory lane to relive the careers of some of Australian rugby league’s lesser lights.
Isaac Gordon was a speedy winger for the Cronulla Sharks from 2010 to 2012. He was also a pretty mediocre player and a less than average bloke off the field.
Unlike fellow 2010 Sharkies debutant Nathan Gardner, Gordon didn’t exactly become a cult figure. He played in 14 matches scoring five tries on the way to a 14th placed finish. Only the Cowboys won fewer matches that season with the Storm collecting the wooden spoon as they were unable to play for points.
2011 was a year Gordon would rather forget. His end-of-season drinks with teammates on September 28 would somehow be even worse than his measly five games and two tries. The end of season celebration would turn sour quickly as Gordon finished the night assaulting his pregnant partner. Gordon bit his partner’s hand in a struggle for car keys after she questioned his late arrival and the ungodly scent of a night of northern peninsula clubbing.
Gordon was somehow not sacked by the club and went on to play ten further matches for Cronulla in 2012 before the club finally released him at season’s end. Not content with having a Gordon-less team, the Sharks upgraded to Michael ‘Flash’ Gordon in 2013.
His post-NRL career is almost like following the life of a budget Kardashian – he just keeps finding ways to slither back into the news.
In 2014, Gordon made headlines after he launched legal proceedings against the Cronulla Sharks as a club, and launched personal lawsuits against sports scientist Stephen Dank, head coach Shane Flanagan and former head trainer Trent Elkin.
From 2013 to 2015 Gordon played Queensland Country rugby league for the Calliope Roosters. His move to the Dubbo CYMS ‘Fishies’ somehow became significant news for the Daily Mail as the former Cessnock Goanna looked to move closer to his hometown Brewarrina which is north-west of Dubbo.
Despite being from a small country town with a population of 1600, Gordon’s NRL tenure is not deemed worthy of labelling him a ‘notable citizen’ of Brewarrina. Now that’s mediocre.

Not sure what the point of these articles are James. If the concept is to highlight interesting stories from former fringe players then I think you've got a great regular column, but if it's just to muck rake players who got into trouble or to mock players who only played a couple of games then it's already past it's use-by.

Ok.. Cmon James this one has crossed the line.. now he may not be a great bloke but youre just insulting him and not really putting it forward in a good manner. Just mainly out of spite it seems.
