India vs England: International cricket, 4th Test – Day 3 live scores

By The Roar / Editor

It looks like another draw may be on the cards when India and England resume the fourth Test in their series. Join The Roar for live scores from Day 3 of the match, starting from 3pm AEDT.

So far this five-match series has delivered a draw and two wins to India on home soil, meaning that with two fixtures left undecided even a draw here will clinch a series victory for them.

The first match was simply never likely to see a result as both teams held resolute with the bat, and even after England declared in their second innings with seven wickets in hand India still came nowhere near the total to chase of 310.

India were far stronger in the second and third matches however, winning them by 246 runs and eight wickets respectively.

In this fourth Test England continued the pattern of big innings – they went in to bat first and brought up a total of 400 runs before their final wicket fell.

Opener Keaton Jennings was the hero of the innings with a knock of 112, but they also saw valuable contributions from Jos Buttler (76), Moeen Ali (50) and Alistair Cook (46).

Ravi Ashwin took six wickets for the homeside conceding 112 runs, while Ravindra Jadeja took the other four.

India came in to bat and put up 146 runs before stumps on Day 2, losing only a single wicket in that time, belonging to Lokesh Rahul, bowled by Moeen Ali for 24 runs.

That leaves them a hefty 254 runs behind the English total but with nine wickets in hand.

Unless the English bowling attack is able to skittle the Indian batting order – and it has not had much success attempting to do so during this series – then a draw really does seem like the likely result.

Great innings by both Vijay and Kohli But England made a rod for their back by dropping Kohli, when Rashid spilt him when he was 60 odd. Tough caught and bowled chance but it will be the difference between a 50 run lead and 100 run deficit for England which now sets up a one innings game that India is short odds to win b/c of the strength of their spinners. England would have to bat really well to set up a 200+ run lead and then bowl really well which is unlikely. The pitch is supporting spin and the Indian spinners perfectly suited and then the Indian bats are able against spin, particularly Vijay who is exceptional. And then the English tweekers are lacking in completeness as well as lacking support from the rest of the attack on this pitch that is giving seamers nothing

At 2-260 India have put themselves in a good position (England by comparison were 5-249) but they need a first innings lead as this pitch looks like it will be very difficult for batting 4th. Fortunately for India they have a seriously long batting lineup in this match - Jayant at 9 has made 115 runs for 3 innings this series, and Bhuvy at 10 is a very competent batsman who averages 24 with the blade in Tests. Well balanced match.

Unless the English bowling attack is able to skittle the Indian batting order – and it has not had much success attempting to do so during this series – then a draw really does seem like the likely result. my apologies, but whoever wrote this has no clue.......... With it only day three and the pitch already supporting turn the draw is arguably the least likely result If India can get a lead they are very able to win this, particularly if it is by over 100. Also, if the English can bowl India out and then bat well they too can set up a victory charge on what will be a very difficult pitch on day 5.
