Mayweather vs McGregor: Floyd offers Conor $20 million payday

By The Roar / Editor

Undefeated boxing champion Floyd Mayweather has reportedly made a new offer to UFC superstar Conor McGregor for a bout in 2017.

Mayweather, who retired from the sport in 2015 after his victory over Andre Berto, has offered the Irishman $20 million to get into the ring and take on the 49-0 prize fighter.

» Mayweather vs McGregor – will it ever happen?

Under the terms reportedly offered to McGregor’s camp, under which he stands to make $135.47 million to come out of retirement.

The former five-division champion spoke of the ongoing negotiations with the McGregor camp.

“We tried to make the fight. They know what my number is. My number was a guaranteed $100m.

“We’re the A-side and I don’t know how much money he [McGregor] has made?” Mayweather said speaking with ESPN.

“I’m pretty sure he hasn’t even made $10m from an MMA bout. But we are willing to give him $15m and then we can talk about splitting the percentage, the back-end percentage on pay-per view.

“But of course we’re the A-side. How can a guy talk about $20m or $30m if he’s never even made $8m or $9m?”

McGregor has previously said that his number is matching the $100 million of Mayweather to switch sports, where he would be at a huge competitive disadvantage, having never competed as a pure boxer before.

It’s also likely the case that Mayweather is off in his estimations of his prospective opponents’ earnings, as UFC fighters’ fight salaries and pay-per-view revenue splits are often not disclosed.

Either way, the impasse remains for now. McGregor’s camp has not responded to Floyd’s latest offer.

I'd rather watch 12 rounds of 'the sweet science' than 2 blokes that are jacks of all trades, masters of none. ? I appreciate the hard work UFC fighters put in as athletes. But it's horrible to watch. See ya Monday BigJ.

I'm a ufc fan lairdy and at least the ufc gets a Ko instead of two blokes dancing around other with twelve rounds and occasionally throwing a punch. When mayweather finally fought pacquaio of course pacman got owned the fight happen six years after it should where pacman was injured and past his best. If mayweather fought him back in 2009 he would of got Ko. Anyway macgregor ain't no god just another gobby c$nt that thinks he is unbeatable ( even though he has been beaten) and mayweather would wipe the floor with him. I reckon even you could beat him. Enjoy the weekend mate see you on monday U

True boxing fans appreciate immensely the way Mayweather Jnr fights. Technically and defensively brilliant. That's the problem with "casual" boxing fans. They think boxing is all about the ko's. This is why so many Pacquiao fans are butt hurt. They were gobbing off for years about how Mayweather Jnr was "dodging" him. Then Pacquiao got owned. "Boxing fans are worse than UFC fans"... Have you ever actually talked to a UFC fan?... Come on! ???

This makes money because both men are Hype Machines. Both are simply looking for a pay day. McGregor gets smoked in a boxing ring and Mayweather in a UFC ring. I think boxing fans are worse than UFC fans based on what they spent for Pacman v Mayweather which was always going to be a dud fight. Mayweather is an amazing boxer but he is extremely boring to watch.

Obviously, Mayweather is the elephant BigJ. MacGregor would struggle against good American amatuers. The money he was paid to beat Pacquiao was well worth it because it showed the difference between boxing fans that know what they're talking about and 'casual' boxing fans. The reason this fight would make so much $$$ is because retarded UFC fans believe that MacGregor is some kind of god.

Lairdy who is the ant and you is the elephant???? Also who the hell does mayweather think he is demanding 100 million, he fight against pacquaio wasn't worth 1 million. And these idiots think that they are going to generate enough money to pay 100 million??? These two are just ego maniacs are just mistaking there ambitisions for their abilities.

Although thankfully, it wasn't mentioned in this article. It peeves me when people refer to this as a "super fight"! Just remember... An elephant doesn't fight with an ant.

How about McGregor defends a MMA title first. Both Ferguson and Khabib would be very difficult fights for him. That is insane money Mayweather would make from the fight. 135.7m! What does one do with all that money?
