Tell us: Who should replace Mitch Marsh?

By Riordan Lee / Editor

This week, the Roar LIVE gang will be joined by former Australian Test bowler Jason Krejza.

Australian players have been dropping like flies since their heartbreaking loss in Bengaluru and they face an enormous task to claim a historic series win.

We’re gonna be talking about the crucial third Test, so we found someone who’s actually played for his country in India to join the panel.

Jason famously had the figures of 8-215 on debut in India and we’ll be picking his brain about two burning issues:

1. Now that Mitch Marsh has departed the subcontinent, who should be his replacement?

2. With our backs firmly against the wall, can we still pull off one more win and retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy?

As always, we want to know your thoughts, so get your answers in the comments and we’ll get to as many as possible.

Roar Live will be streamed Wednesday morning on The Roar’s Facebook page. It will also be available as a podcast on Soundcloud and iTunes.

Maxwell of course. He is the total package. He bats, bowls and is a gun fielder. Moreover, he is entertaining. That is not to say there is no place for Uzzie. Surely the days of the Marsh brothers are over. Maxwell is entertaining to watch and he is an intelligent cricket.

I am very interested in just how Maxwell could be our Stokes or De Kock. Apart from warm fuzzy potential (which hasn't worked out with Mitch Marsh), is there any evidenced based reasoning to suggest Maxwell can be what Marsh never has been, a match winner? De Kock averages 48 in FC so that hints he will be quite successful with the bat in test cricket. Stokes averages 34 with bat and 30 with ball in FC, but showed in only his 2nd test in a losing side, that he had the game for test cricket. Maxi averages almost 40 batting and just over 40 bowling, but really what has he shown us about his game at the top level. 3 tests reaped only 80 runs and a couple of the dismissals may have had selectors stamping his file with the "NOT SUITABLE FOR TEST CRICKET" flag. Older and perhaps wiser, Maxwell's impulsive genius, while making him so dangerous for opposition, may also be what makes him a danger for our selectors. It would be entertaining to watch though.

Then Lyon would complete the trio and perhaps its way past time for these three musketeers to be reunited once more.

We couldn't chase 180 on a minefield. I doubt many could. Honestly Maxy seems just as inept at playing in these conditions as Khawaja, but potentially offers some handy overs. Our batting doesn't need suring up as much as it needs Warner to go on and make a solid innings.

He should play because it is a turner. You don't need an extra bowler and you need to increase your chances of scoring more runs.

Since Wade is a much better batsman than Maxwell, take the gloves off him and give them to a real wicket-keeper (Peter Neville) and keep Wade in the team to replace Marsh. Wade only has a brain explosion every 30 minutes, which is 20 minutes longer than Maxwell can hold himself together. Wade is an excellent keeper to the quicks, but just acts as a back-stop to the spinners.

We couldn't chase 180 guys, we need more batting and Khawaja is the man for that

Khawaja has to get a go, should not have been dropped in the first place

Between lyons finger and his reliance on bounce, we may see agar or swepson on a low pitch that we are expecting. Cummins a certain starter between his pace and batting ability. Maxwell at 6.

Khawaja is no chance the wicket is a raging turner. He simply can not play if the wicket is like that. They have prepared a wicket to negate Hazlewood, Cummins and Lyon's bounce. Apparently the driest, grass less surface the Australian team have ever seen. The wicket though may not have eneven bounce. It will suit Jadeja the most with his flat type of bowling. Wouldn't be surprised if the Aussies did something radical and went for this 11. Warner Renshaw Smith Marsh Handscomb Maxwell Wade Agar Sok Lyon Hazlewood

Yes agreed it has to be Khawaja and I remember the test you are talking about where Cummings smashed it with a 5 for and Khawaja played a fantastic 60 odd in a record chase for us

It has to be Khawaja as it's our batting that needs strengthening not our bowling

A stump. It would be just as effective.
