Roosters have no room for sacked Taylor

By News / Wire

Sydney Roosters coach Trent Robinson believes Jason Taylor still has a future in the NRL – but it won’t be at Bondi Junction.

The sacked Wests Tigers mentor was an assistant to Robinson, his good friend, when the Roosters won the premiership in 2013.

Robinson, though, says the Roosters have long-term staff locked in but hopes Taylor will get picked up elsewhere.

“Look, I’ve got my staff and I know we’re into long-term contracts so JT won’t be back here,” Robinson said on Wednesday.

“But he’s a good coach and someone should pick him up. I’ve coached with him and I know he knows his stuff.”

Robinson has already reached out to Taylor, who many fear may need to head to England’s Super League to resurrect his coaching career.

“Spoke to JT on Monday. He’s a good friend and a good coach and I wanted to make sure he was okay,” Robinson said.

“He knows the coaching world and what the risks are and what the rewards are.

“Yeah, it’s not a nice week for JT. He’ll move on.

“The Tigers made a decision and they’ve got to make sure they get fixed what they think’s wrong.

“They thought JT was a part of that but I’m sure that’s not it.”

Robinson refused to say whether he believed the Tigers had sacked Taylor too early in the season.

“I’m not an administrator. I don’t understand what was going on at the Tigers,” Robinson said.

“I don’t know really anybody there except for Jason.

“So my opinion’s going to be biased; so it’s not for me to comment on when boards and that make decisions.”

Why would anyone ever hire him again?

The Dragons should pick him as attacking coach. A lot of tries last year in the highlight reels were from the tigers. The 100m try from the kamap kick against South's was one of tries of the year and that was down to great coaching isolating Inglis from the kick off. He certainly has a lot of potential as a coach IMO.

He shall return, MAX ? People are talking about Cleary as his replacement, what sane person would put their hand up for the job ? Lock em in for the spoon .

I think Taylor is quite astute. He's got a good head for radio and I think he could have a future in that medium.

I hope the Cows board make a call to him. He worked with Coach Green when he was at the Roosters, would be a great pick up IMO.

As occupations go, Coaching (Football of any code), Acting (Screen or Stage) and Politics (Either Party) are essentially for the thrill seeker with a complex urge to do it as good as if not better than those before you. The rewards are great but the casualties present like a bird's eye view of a Civil War battlefield. Some of the survivors will live to fight another day. Others may be comforted knowing that at least they have had a go, the experience in memory forever. I admire the Jason Taylor 's of this world and am pleased that Trent Robinson is in his corner. The media pundits have deployed him to the role of Chief Assistant. If his ego can cope with that he should smile and realise how lucky he is to earn a good living in the sport he loves. When he is wrinkled and grey he may even do a MacArthur.
