Daryl Gibson adamant Tahs players support him

By Adrian Warren / Wire

NSW Waratahs coach Daryl Gibson says he is “100 per cent” confident there’s no player-driven plot to oust him from the struggling Super Rugby franchise.

Asked about a Fairfax report on Monday which claimed he had lost the support of a number of unnamed players, Gibson wouldn’t comment on “unsubstantiated rumours or whispers.”

He said he hadn’t felt the need to ask the players if they had any problems with him.”

Deans was loved from 2008 until the 2011 WC (with a brief moment in 2009 where people were very sceptical). Nothing to do with nationality - people are far more angry at Cheika than Gibson.

Whatever way you look at this Andrew Hore as CEO has to accept some of the blame here . Ever since he has taken over it's been one way ....south ! I was at the last game and the game before that and the one before that (yeah sucker for punishment!) and I've just about had enough ....not sure if I will renew next year after being a loyal member for 15 years .....Whatever you think of Jason Allan he turned the place around and won a title - as they say in the classics - 'look at the scoreboard' I hear all this talk ' we get it right at training but just get it right on the field' - well that's wearing thin now.....I mean in the real world if the Sales team don't sell ANYTHING but comment ...'well it goes really well at staff training ' - the reality is these guys get the sack .....c'mon guys get real - time to wake up, face reality and recruit someone else with a STRICT performance criteria on past and proven achievement just like the real world

The players all wanted him originally. But when you take a team from finishing 3rd in 2015, to 10th in your first year as head coach, and most likely a 14th or 15th place finish this year, what do you expect? But no, let's make this about Aussie's and Kiwi's. Onya m8.

So you believe he's being successful? It has nothing to do with his nationality.

I have never understood as to why Daryl Gibson put himself forward to Coach in Australia, as the status quo dictates that the Aussie rugby player won't wear a Kiwi as a Coach, ~ This was always going to end in tears, and it appears it is about to!

So his performances should keep him in?

The players on contracts have no competition so don't fear getting dropped.

It may well be that Gibson has the support of the players, or even most of the players. But thats not the point. The performance of the Waratahs is appalling, and as one of the heartland rugby states, cannot be accepted. Just as the cosy relationship between the Reds players and Richard Graham saw the Reds move decisively to the bottom of the local conference, so are the Waratahs on the way down. The Reds thought Graham was a good bloke, and should stay as coach. The QRU bought that inane line for 2 years. By the way, he is actually a good bloke. But thats not the point. The point is Gibson as coach has to go. And a number of players must be cut and sacked. The lack of skills is a telling coaching failure. The lack of committment and determination is a telling player failure. Plenty more out there looking for a chance.

Gibson would be a fool to expect loyalty from players who have form for shafting a coach. And yes, I expect Cheika will be drafted back in to the Tahs and that he'll do both the Wallabies and the Tahs jobs, along with his mate Grey. Not that there's much difference between the two teams anyhow....in personnel , performance and style.

Tahs form has crashed off the cliff since he took over. Sure the roster took a hit but from competition benchmark in 2014 to competition punchline is appalling. The attack has looked slick sometimes, but there is so much else to their game that just sucks. It's his roster and his systems that are failing. I wouldnt mind if the Tahs lost against the Force at this rate. But how low do we have to go before things turn around?
