Past the Post - Weekend Blackbookers

By Adam Page / Roar Guru

The weekend of racing could be best described as ‘moving day’ with a few contenders stepping up while some contenders got a downgrade to pretenders. Here are the weekend blackbookers.

Caulfield

Follow
Typhoon Monaco – Made her a Blackbooker after the fresh run and I’m including her again. Was off the bit before the turn but loved the way she closed off late. Looking for further and I’m confident she can win a race.

Jalan Jalan – Looked outclassed on paper but she ran really well here with no luck in running. She’s eligible for easier, so if placed right next time, she can definitely win.

Rich Charm – Oh dear this was a tough watch if you were on. Had he got clear at the right time, he probably wins. He’s set for a ripping prep.

Forget
Limestone – No chance in the Thousand Guineas. Freshen up back to sprint trips. Plenty of options for her under that scenario.

Royal Symphony – I’m taking him on in the Caulfield Guineas. I wasn’t a believer and his run in the Prelude didn’t sway me. How he can pull back that margin, I’m not sure.

Randwick

Follow
Tangled – Bounced back to form here and should take some beating in the Spring Champion. Would have gone close with a clear path but still was sound.

Foxplay – She is absolutely flying this mare. Had no hope the way the track played but still, she did an amazing job to finish off like she did.

Forget
Sense Of Occasion – He needs a wet track. But even without that, I’m not sure how well he has come back. Jury well and truly out.

Fell Swoop – I know he’s a big time performer at Randwick, but with all due respect, he won’t be doing much damage in The Everest.

Antonio Giuseppe/Life Less Ordinary – Couple of pretenders on the big stage, especially Antonio. He’s been a flop at Group l level.

Joao Moreira (In Sydney) – When he takes on the big boys on in Sydney, he has been a major disappointment despite some plum rides.

Moonee Valley

Follow
Split Lip – She’s flying this girl. Just has that awful racing pattern. Got back to last and was off the bit before the turn but she was great late. There is a blacktype win in her for sure.

Gallic Chieftain – He’s no Cups horse, but there is a good race in him this prep. His run in the JRA Cup was excellent. Geelong Cup/Herbert Power maybe.

Lizzie L’Amour – I have no words for this. Just watch the replay. Absolute nightmare.

Forget

So Far Sokool – Send her back to NZ. She’s very limited and not the same horse she was when racing across the Tasman.

Foundation – This horse was seriously talked up as a Caulfield Cup contender… dear me. How/Why?

Russian Revolution- Not the best of rides, so forgive there… but how can he recover off this suicidal run? Couldn’t back him with confidence again this Spring.

This is unrelated to the article. I'm very disappointed that Christian Reith is struggling to get rides. He's a city class jockey. On Saturday he had one ride on a favourite, Witherspoon , drawn barrier 16. No rides on Monday at Warwick Farm, 3 today at Nowra and one tomorrow at Canterbury. He usually gives his rides a good chance.

Might be too soon for him this Spring NOIP, but he will make a lovely type in the Autumn. Derby written all over him

Have a look at Rich Charms usual mapping' addington. Racing back of midfield often leads to a high degree of luck getting runs.

Adam ....you may have jumped Royal Symphony a tad quickly (not that you were ever on him) ....as a set of blinkers ....pace in the race ....and 1600 mtrs could see him come right over the top of them. I am going to have some of the 11/2 as he is now great value and a great chance. Iv'e seen this before and jumped off to my detriment ....not this time though.
