Wallaby Izack Rodda ruled out for year

By Vince Rugari / Wire

Wallabies rookie Izack Rodda has been ruled out for the rest of the year after opting for surgery on his injured shoulder.

The decision will ensure the 21-year-old lock, who has started in Australia’s last two Test outings, is fit in time for the new Super Rugby campaign.

Rodda only made his debut for the Queensland Reds in the opening round of this season but quickly impressed Wallabies coach Michael Cheika, who handed him a debut off the bench in the narrow Bledisloe Cup defeat in Dunedin.

Good for you IR. Put you own health first son. Better to fix yourself up than push on with that injury as there will be more opportunities later if you are fit.

JR What is a distaster ? Is that something you don't like? Like distasteful? Is Tui distasteful to you? Will the lineout become distasteful because Tui is there?? - so you want to bring on Rob Simmons if it becomes distasteful?? Wern`t you one of those blokes who reckoned Simmons was soft when he was a QLD RED ?

Hard luck Rodda, Cheika can now revert back to his best mate Ned Flanders at lock.He is in the squad ( how does that happen ? ) Anyway Ned Hanigan will be an asset against the ALL BLACKS.-Mark my words.

That's shame for him and the wallabies. I like what I saw from Rodda. Has potential, goes in hard and has a crack. I would've liked to see him start with Coleman and have Arnold on the beck (or bench behind those two) I can't understand why Simmons is picked? He wasn't even starting for his club team mid way through the season, and missed out on the June tests. Seems like a backwards step IMO Anyway - Hoping for a speedy recovery for Rodda. Hopefully he's ready to go for the Wallabies next year!

good to see players taking these decisions immediately , rather than procrastinating. some play with injuries and then get affected badly.

Simmons can play well for 80 minutes. I expect him to start. Duncan Paywave should be on the bench to replace Foley.

Unfortunate for him- he was looking the goods to partner Coleman - pretty terrible timing as well.

Cheika: Please let this player get injured, so I can stop picking him, even though there is literally nothing stopping me from not picking him. That way I can select a player in a position that I've literally never picked him for.

Start Tui. Simmons can come off the bench, early if the linout/scrum is a distaster.

That was the impression I had of Rory at the ground. Hopefully his knee knock is minor.

Out for a year and out for the rest of the year? Pretty big difference. Fortunately it's the latter. So does Simmons start? Would much rather Arnold. He looked like a man playing against boys in the small part of the NRC game I saw.
