I don't apologise nor need to , for suggesting Searle was smart in getting the Titan's franchise up after it getting knocked on the head prior,getting a new stadium in place, or his Cof E vision.Clubs do have such animals. Like many businesses and businesspeople in this country,no one realised what the full impact of the GFC would be in 2008.It wasn't a Sunday outing FHS. That includes economists,accountants ,lawyers and politicians of all persuasions, both in this country and elsewhere.And even Superfund managers, and I know from experience the hit my fund took in a very short space of time. I guess you were one of the few, who knew exactly the impact prior what the effect would be? My criticism of Searle revolves around the aftermath and the dealings with contractors, to the extent the club's name was mud. One only has to look around now at the huge debt being incurred by people and business in a low interest rate environment, seemingly oblivious to the effect of either a small interest rate rise or another GFC or dread the thought a Nth Korean conflagration

Hold on didn't you wax lyrical about how smart Searle was and how he had ensured none of the Cot of E debt would affect the viability of the NRL franchise?

RandyM, No doubt there are suburbs on the Gold Coast, the growth in housing there has be extraordinary. But the majority of those who live on the Gold Coast came from somewhere else, primarily Victoria and NSW. They either retired up there, or if younger, they went on holidays there once and thought this is warmer and cheaper than where I can't hack it at the moment, let's move here. It's all fading glitter with no soul, which shows it its sporting teams. Four seasons in 22 they have made the finals (winning 2 from 7 finals appearances), not a great record. I keep hearing words like ''potential'' and ''powerhouse'' associated with sporting teams, unfortunately, I've never associated it with Gold Coast professional sporting teams. The words I associate with Gold Coast sporting teams are: "in administration", ''struggling'', ''underperforming star recruit'', ''new head coach'', ''new owners'', etc.

The frizelle motor group is now owned by the Peter Warren group of which Quadrant is now a major investor.

The Gold Coast is more than a transient holiday strip. There are suburbs there with houses and families living in them, all the way from Logan down to northern NSW. Lots of transport infrastructure, a decent airport, commonwealth games coming up. The Titans and Suns are encompassing huge areas, not just Surfers Paradise/Broadbeach. The Titans have made the finals once since 2011, they've had some off field issues and their recruitment has been quite poor imo. There is a lot of potential still there for a team that could be a real powerhouse one day.

One thing for sure Frizelle and Co are not Tinkler or Palmer or Skase. The whole Titans debacle started with their Cof E,then the GFC hit, money owed, money not paid,tradesmen hurt financially,the clubs name in the community ATT mud. Frizelle is a local business identity well established who came in after the Searle debacle and with Kelly who lost millions, steered the club with NRL assistance. If it was all about deep pockets ,the other bidder with $25m to throw in ,would have got the gig. The facts are like all NRL clubs they get their grant plus 30%.If they can't make a go of it, then by all means move it.The NRL will not be supporting financially clubs who get into financial troubles. Throw in the new Titan's chairman (who was a Broncos director )and help make the club the powerhouse it is today, a huge junior base, suggests they are in for the long haul. The new Titans board have the brains and know the area well.Not ego trippers.

Spot on. Money talks and b##ls##t walks. I bet NRL couldn't wait to dump it. Maybe another tinkler or Palmer episode. I really think NRL ownership is not for someone with deep pockets and no brains.

YK, you might be on the right track. They should now be called Gold Coast 7.0 Great history 1998 to now: Gold Coast Tweed Chargers Gold Coast Seagulls Gold Coast Gladiators (privately owned, licence revoked) Gold Coast Chargers A happy decade of no failing Gold Coast team! Gold Coast Titans (privately owned) Gold Coast Titans (NRL owned) Gold Coast Titan (privately owned) Why do the NRL/AFL keep persisting in this transient holiday strip? Market it properly (aiming it at away fans for a weekend away in the warmth away from the southern winter) or put a team in Perth (NRL) or Tassie (AFL). Why both the NRL/AFL keep wasting their money on this area without a real soul or a beating heart is an interesting question.

The "West Coast Titans" could be a good fit for Perth - same colours as the West Coast Eagles. But I reckon Perth deserves a new team set-up from scratch. The Gold Coast should take some home matches to Brisbane, then look at expanding their fan base into South Brisbane and establish partnerships with the Queensland Cup teams that are south of the Brisbane River. The Broncos can stay north of the River.

Nice to be able to bounce back from a 5 mill loss, and just throw ya hat in the ring again . I'm not really sure what that says about Mr Kelly and the situation in general. Add to that , the person that oversaw the whole Henry V Hayne debacle and it just gets more bizarre. Hopefully it's on field news being generated in 2018 , but with such strange circumstances I remain cynical.

It’s good news for the Titans All they need now is a little onfield success. I will get to at least a couple of their games next season. Wish the club the very best of good luck.

They (the Bears) pulled out some time ago. Back to the Future for the Titans. Apparently going back to previous directors is the way to go. I hope it works not sure that it will.

At least sanity has prevailed and the Bears were not given control of them just to rebrand and relocate them to the Central Coast in 3 years time.
