Carlton slump to six straight losses as Bulldogs win by 21

Mattyb Carlton would struggle in the VFL with this list SOS put together. I mean they might at least win a few games in the VFL but they are a disgrace to our great competition now and must be kicked out before they kill off the AFL, none of my mates will watch any game with Carlton playing anymore, they are just too bad.

I don't think he's soft, his tackling is one of the strengths of his game. I think that's more to do with his intent, than being shy of the contest. He seems to let the game come to him at the moment, rather than trying to impose himself on each contest. Need a much more consistent effort from him at stoppages. Incredible talent though, he'll have a 5 minute spell showing off his potential brilliance and then he can disappear for 10 minutes. I know he is only a second year player, but so is Fisher.

The compromised drafts didn't help, but our drafting and development of players prior to that was also poor, likely league worst. SOS's draft selections in his first two drafts appear to be very good, the next area Carlton need to improve in is the development of those players and as I've said i don't think gifting games to young players in a struggling team is the way to go, but then the question is who else on this list would you play instead. As for free agents, I know the best of them will go to supposed contenders (looks like the Essendon trio got it wrong), but there are others and James Kelly is a great example of formerly great players on great teams that are getting cleared up, but want to extend their careers a couple of years. Players like this provide instant depth and on field leadership. Carlton only need 2 or 3 of them next year (this year would have been nice) and would help not just on game day, but with the development of the younger players. They only need to be at the club 2 years, and hopefully being pushed out of the seniors in their second season by a deserving youngster. I would like to see Alex Silvagni come in for Rowe when he is ready. What I don't want to see is Weitering straight back into the firsts, he needs to prove himself as a footballer in the two's before playing AFL again and O'BRIEN isn't ready yet and also needs to go back, hopefully for Cunningham who actually looked like he contributing when playing seniors.

Steve009, I think it will be hard for Carlton to pick up free agents until they are contenders for the finals. Part of their problem was the series of compromised drafts during the expansion clubs era. There is a problem at the moment with the lack of experienced players largely caused by injury, I do wonder if they would be better placed to recruit a couple of late career players to assist in the development of the young players. Essendon got two good years out of James Kelly after he was delisted by Geelong and he could have even played another year. He was invaluable as an on field coach and is now an assistant coach at Essendon.

Steve,I think the free agents or trying to trade in proper experienced players should be something the blues look into next year and I have mentioned this previously also. Good comments. My biggest concern is the blues will fail to properly develop their youth in this environment closely followed by losing Cripps if everything goes as pear shaped as it currently looks. What do you think of SPS so far? I know he's young but he seems really shy of the contest.

In SOS's defense, within the confines of the AFL's draft, trade and free agent system, and the poor list he took over thanks to the Ratten and Malthouse years, he was dealt incredibly bad hand to work with worth. He has done a great job in bringing in high draft picks, the cost being the loss of so many decent players from our list currently in their prime playing years. He brought in so many 'rejects' because he had to bring players in for cheap. You need players of value to trade for players of recognized value. We used most of our players of value for draft picks. And of all those 'rejects' we acquired for very little we have found some long term players which is a great result. Where SOS has failed in my mind is in our focus on youth, we haven't brought in any quality free agents that would help us now and over the next few years while the younger players develop.

The AFW,VFL and AFL wooden spoon trifecta that is now on the cards is new. Carlton don't actually do anything new either because they're just an old boys club making the same mistakes year after year. Unfortunately I'm yet to be wrong in regards to this tragic club,as they remarkably continue to sink to even lower depths.

I think the Dogs are on the right path, like Hawthorn in 2008 their premiership came before time but they are now building nicely with a young list which will have its ups and downs. Beveridge is to be congratulated for only selecting players once they have earned their spots.

Matty, every time the subject of Carlton comes up you go into this loop and it is very rare for you to find anything new to say.

As bad as Carlton are the dogs were not that much better. The skill levels from both teams was miserable. Carlton have a long way to go if this year is anything to judge by, and no one knows with the dogs.

Aransan,stop picking rejects is constructive and more honest than hearing how wonderful Carlton are every preseason and hearing what a super recruiter SOS is every year. Pure facts point to Bolton now taking Carlton further back than Malthouse,and I'm not going to rain pity on a once mighty club that only has itself to blame for the tragic position it finds itself in,I have more respect for the clubs history than that. Real Carlton people are sick of what's going on.

Matty, you are just too predictable. I don't barrack for Carlton, Carlton supporters are just ignoring you. Try making constructive comments, I don't think everything is great at Carlton and I even agree with some of what Steve009 has to say.

Worst performed team in Carlton's history over the first 6 rounds. Hard to defend that. Probably comes down to list management rather than Bolton's coaching though. I am a bit concerned though that our lack of AFL ready players for 2018, and gifting our supposed future stars games is having a detrimental effect on their development. I watch what the energy and youthful excitement young players at Richmond and last night the Bulldogs are offering their teams. I see it some Carlton players, Fisher and Curnow, but I see most just struggling

Carlton will likely get pick 19 back as a priority pick, so Adelaide will have to wait until pick 20 to cash in. Despite all Carlton's talk of receiving two first draft picks, all Adelaide gave up was one first rounder and a slide in that second draft pick by a few spots. Plus Adelaide are using their draft pick in a supposed super draft.

Aransan,if you don't like honest sporting commentary about a club that continues to not only languish at the bottom of the ladder,but have now sunk to the depths that has never been seen before in the clubs history,don't read it,let alone in courage delusional discussion about this tragic club being on the right track.

Bolton has now taken Carlton so far backwards they are now worse than they were when Malthouse was in charge. With membership continueing to fall further and further behind the other big Melbourne clubs and Carlton continueing to lose an entire generation of young fans,the club will need to ask themselves how much longer they can stick with Bolton. Prize Silvagni recruits O'Shea,Mullett and Kennedy are proving as lacklustre as Silvagnis other genius moves while players like Jack Silvagni,SPS and Plowman are going backwards at an alarming rate. Carltton have gone so far backwards that Rowe has now become one of their best players even though he is just returning from knee surgery.
