Scott set to miss Origin on one-match ban

Queensland veteran Matt Scott could miss the State of Origin opener after being cited for a shoulder charge in Friday’s NRL defeat to Melbourne.

However, in some good news for Maroons coach Kevin Walters, Storm forward Felise Kaufusi is available for selection despite being put on report for a cannonball tackle.

The match review committee on Saturday charged North Queensland prop Scott with a grade-one offence for a hit on Melbourne’s Young Tonumaipea, which will cost him one match unless he fights it.

Scott appeared to have his right arm tucked in a collision with Tonumaipea in the 11th minute that resulted in the Storm centre failing to play the ball correctly.

The tackle went unpunished by the on-field officials and missed by Nine Network commentators, while Cowboys players and coach Paul Green applauded the play.

Melbourne’s Kaufusi escaped a charge after being put on report, allowing him to remain in contention to be named on Monday in the Queensland team for Origin I in Melbourne on June 6.

Melbourne forward Sam Kasiano faces a one-match after being charged with dangerous contact on Cowboys playmaker Johnathan Thurston.

It’s a sad indictment on our game if Matt Scott misses any games, let alone an origin for this.

While Tapine got 2 weeks for trying to put Dufty into touch last week...that had nothing, in terms of collision force, compared to Scott's shoulder charge. Then you get Rapana sat for 10 mins running a kick chaser off the ball while last night's Panthers and Dragons infringements warrant only a penalty. How's that for consistency?

I think Scott's a fair chance of getting off if he fights it, but the judiciary is such a lottery who knows what could happen

The Kasiano hit on Thurston was a dog shot, cheap and late.
