The Sydney Roosters are looking to consolidate their top-eight spot when they host the Gold Coast Titans at Central Coast Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match from 3pm (AEST).

The seventh-placed Roosters are coming off the back of a loss against the Broncos at Suncorp Stadium, while the Titans snapped a five-match losing streak with a win over Newcastle at home on the Gold Coast.

This week’s match will be the last chance for Origin hopefuls in both teams to push their claims for selection for Game 1. For the Roosters, that includes Latrell Mitchell, Luke Keary, James Tedesco, Blake Ferguson, Jake Friend, Dylan Napa and Boyd Cordner.

Players with genuine claims from the Titans include Jarrod Wallace, Jai Arrow, Ryan James and Ash Taylor.

Tricolours coach Trent Robinson has named an unchanged line-up, with Dylan Napa escaping any further penalty for his jaw-breaking shot on Broncos forward Korbin Sims last week.

Kevin Proctor returns in the backrow for the Titans, after overcoming a groin injury, pushing Max King back to the bench.

Prediction
The home side’s superior defence will give them the edge, with their opponents conceding an average of 26 points a game this season.

Roosters by 10.

I would love to see Ash Taylor picked for SOO. It’s unfortunate he has to watch a bloke like Cartwright totally destroy his great game management and leadership. Throw him alongside good players like Slater, Inglis, Munster, Morgan and Ponga running off his passing and kicking game and he would kill an opponent IMO. The way he moves the ball around is very C.Smith like with passing and kicking in accuracy and consistentency.

Match report ROOSTERS 34 TITANS 14 The Roosters have scored 28 unanswered points in the second half to beat the Titans 34-14 at Central Coast Stadium in Gosford. The Titans scored two first half tries to one to head into the sheds leading the Roosters 14-6, but it was all one-way traffic in the second half with the Roosters having a glut of possession and piling on four tries. Two of those were scored while Titans’ half Ash Taylor was in the sin bin for a ruck infringement. Earlier, Taylor had set up both of the Titans’ first half tries. The first came in the 9th minute when he put in a grubber kick that Blake Ferguson fumbled in his own in-goal. Titan’s fullback Michael Gordon was on hand to dive on the ball and score. The Roosters hit back in the 15th minute with their own try off a grubber kick. Hooker Jake Friend put one in from dummy half and fullback James Tedesco easily won the race to ground the ball. Titans’ winger Anthony Don scored the Titans second try in the corner in the 31st minute after the Gold Coast ran the ball down the short side and Taylor threw him a cut out ball. Down 14-6, it was important for the Roosters to start the second half well. They did that in the 44th minute when replacement backrower Victor Radley put a charging Isaac Liu for a try. Eight minutes later, Latrell Mitchell showed his strength to beat three defenders to score in what was otherwise a fairly quiet game from him. He was sin binned late in the match after the Roosters had been warned for repeated ruck infringements. Leading 22-14, the Roosters went further ahead in the 58th minute when Titans’ replacement backrower Bryce Cartwright fumbled a Cooper Cronk grubber in goal. Cronk was on hand to dive on the ball and score under the posts. Four minutes from full-time, James Tedesco capped a good performance by making a 50 metre break up the middle before throwing a long ball to put centre Mitch Aubusson over. The win consolidates the Roosters top-eight spot ahead of the State of Origin period ahead.

There is no good reason to have Bryce Cartwright on the field. Tedesco ran straight past him and he refused to attempt a tackle. Errors are frequently happening around him because team mates are not confident or confused by his presence.
