Behind the barriers: five bets for Sunday June 3

By Adam Page / Roar Guru

There is a stack of racing across Australia on Sunday, so I’ll spread the love far and wide in search of finding a winner. Here are my five plays for the afternoon.

Bet One – Win – Ballarat Race Five Number 7 Good Oh
She should be putting this field away if she’s going to be considered a future city horse. Good run last time out under the lights at Cranbourne when a narrow second to Holy Command.

1400m on the big track, with clear air, hard fit…ticks a lot of boxes. Happy to be on at $3.50.

Bet Two – Each Way – Ballarat Race Eight Number 4 Last Wish
Why is this horse $51? Thought his first run for the stable at Warrnambool behind Tradesman was a ripper before going to the Casterton Cup where he struggled on the bottomless track.

Gets firmer footing this time around and third up, he should just about be ready fitness wise. Each way all day.

Bet Three – Win – Ballarat Race Nine Number 6 Skelton
I think he’s pretty good. I’m not sure what he beat on debut at Donald over the 1350m, but oh my he was impressive and the changeup speed was electric, winning by over five lengths. Harder here obviously, but early market supports says he can measure up. I’ll jump on.

Bet Four – Win – Penola Race Three Number 9 Tiza
Tricky maiden but I think she’s the one to beat. She was a notable drifter in betting when racing over 1100m here last time out where she was off the pace and never really looked likely but stuck on okay to run third.

1400m is the query but is very well in at the weights with only 52.5kg on her back.

Bet Five – Win – Devonport Race Three Number 2 Robbo The Bold
A synthetic specialist who should take some beating here. He ran over the mile here last time out and just got a bit too far back but I really liked his finale late when second to Scouting Around.

Does get a weight swing on that horse and the extra furlong is a big tick, plus Troy Baker, a strong rider, takes over.

It wasn't a bad run. I like backing roughies, in two consecutive weeks my single bets of 50/1 and 25/1 both ran second. Of course you don't put your house on them and an occasional win will make up for the losses. Adam, if you like a horse at odds, please pass it on but punters have to understand the culture of betting on long shots. Keep up the good work.

I reckon he's going really well Aransan. Just needs a dry track now I think. Similar grade, dry track, he can win
