Legend of Condor has won the Schweppes Flemington Fling on Melbourne Cup day, taking Race 5 ahead of Feared Eyes and Heaven’s Deal in what was a quickly run 1000-metre sprint on an improving track.

Cyclonite jumped well in the race and took the early lead ahead of the pack, but was quickly chased down by Feared Eyes and Heaven’s Deal in the sprint.
Legend of Condor would hit the front into the final 400 metres and hold on for the win ahead of Feared Eyes and Heaven’s Deal though, who did a great job to hang onto third spot after hitting the lead maybe just a little bit far away from the finish than wanted.
While the track was still rated a Heavy 8 for the race, the early-morning rain has disappeared from Melbourne and things were on the improve for the field who were able to pick up pace easily during the back half of the race.
