Shane Flanagan being probed by NRL

By News / Wire

Cronulla coach Shane Flanagan is reportedly being probed by the NRL after emails showed he was in contact with the club during his one-year suspension in 2014.

Cronulla coach Shane Flanagan is being investigated by the NRL after the code’s integrity unit uncovered evidence he communicated with the club during his 12-month suspension in 2014.

The Daily Telegraph reports that Flanagan has been questioned after emails scanned from the Sharks’ internet server as part of the NRL’s ongoing salary cap probe raised the suspicions of investigators.

There was an edict, under the terms of Flanagan’s suspension, imposed following the supplements scandal that engulfed the club, that the coach was to have no direct or indirect contact with officials and players.

The report says emails and phone messages revealed he conversed with senior staff on issues relating to the 2015 season when he was free to return as head coach.

If Flanagan is found to have broken any rules, he could face another ban and the Sharks a big financial penalty.

The club were fined $1 million by the NRL as punishment for the supplements saga, with $400,000 of that suspended.

Easy Tiger, don't paint us with the shark brush. Least likeable team in the comp(other than Manly)

Have to agree Chook , hardly worth a mention, let alone being booted out of the comp . The Roosters do far worse , but are too smart to get caught.

Errr No, a slap on the wrist is what they have had Time after Time after Time. Just look at the outcome the Peptide scandal, did any player miss a single match ???? Now is the time to boot this club out of the competition and send a clear message to the other clubs that cheating the rules and bringing the game into disrepute will not be tolerated.

I can’t believe that the sharks are seriously considering Barrett as a possible replacement if Flanagan goes. Good luck to both parties, they’re a natural fit. Hope the garden furniture meets the standards set by super coach

Easy there, no point in donning that hood and sharpening the axe just yet. Sounds like they’ve done something wrong but the investigation will answer that and the punishment should fit what wxactly the alleged communication was about But we have nothing but rumours, allegations and hearsay so no point sitting there assuming the worst, but I’m worried there might be some hard times ahead for the club with all these probes

Well said, this team just keeps breaking rules and thinking they are above the rules. I’ve never seen a club with such a horrid culture (since the 83 Jets). This club has more question marks than the ‘Riddler’. Salary Cap, Peptides, culture etc etc etc Hopefully we can soon say goodbye ‘Cronulla’.

How about you wait and see what the outcome of all this is before donning the black cap mate.

Who even cares...complete non story in my opinion (and i'm a roosters fan) - so Flanagan sent a few emails and had a few phone conversations?? Not saying he shouldn't incur some level of sanction for this but seriously anything more than a slap on the wrists would be a joke!

Once again Cronulla showing its culture as a club. They don’t need to follow the rules like every other team. They make there own. Peptides, salary cap overspending, not sticking to suspensions, players doing podcast and losing sponsors and producing more negative publicity. It’s time to show how a club can get kicked out of the competition. They seam to roll on from one scandal to the next over the past 5 years. They do not give the competition a good name.
