Don't suspend Napa: RL Players' union

By News / Wire

The Rugby League Players’ Association has spoken out against a suspension for Canterbury’s Dylan Napa over the leaking of explicit videos.

The Rugby League Players’ Association says suspending Dylan Napa over the leaking of explicit videos would be unfair and could encourage blackmail or exploitation of players.

The Canterbury recruit is bracing to learn his fate from the NRL after videos of him performing sexual acts were made public last month.
“He’s clearly embarrassed, ashamed and having to deal with the anxiety of how that has played out publicly, which is the real punishment in all of this,” RLPA chief executive Ian Prendergast told The Sun-Herald.

“We need to remember this occurred five years ago, when a completely different climate existed. We don’t think it’s fair to hand down a 2019 penalty for something that occurred in 2013.”

Prendergast highlighted the need to protect players’ right to privacy, respect existing laws and ensure there was no incentive given to those with “an axe to grind” against a player.

“We need to make sure we don’t encourage people to breach the law around this stuff. We don’t want to get into a situation where we have players being blackmailed or exploited through illegally sharing of private videos,” he said.

Jesus Christ. a) yes because no such thing exists, so you have no actual point. b) yes I wrote about only Napa in an article about only Napa, forgive such terrible misogyny c) Kim K made a cool billion or so out of it, I doubt Dylan will. d) bla bla misogyny bla

A)you asked me to find an article with her name. B) yep it is...and you turned in to a gender war (yep you, and only you) whilst ignoring the basic practicalities of the encounter. Did you completely ignore her existence? YES. The "it is all about Napa" is hypocritical BS you introduced a larger discussion but are now uncomfortable because it betrays your mysoginistic tendancies. You made it more than just Napa you cretin. C) well fair shake of whatever you hold dear but you need to be special brand ignorant to think women come out of this better than men. Seriously do you honestly believe that? Were you home schooled in a mystical valley away from other human beings? Notice you didn't actually broach the facts around blakely and hurrell. a career was destroyed yes... I may well belong in an Orwell novel but you belong in the upper echelons of the catholic church with your detached views on women

a) "sorry, can you please point out the media article shaming her and calling for her to be punished for her bad behaviour?" [as has happened with Napa] In what universe is that "a challenge to name her?" It's clearly pointing out the difference in media treatment of the two. If you weren't so quick to hyperventilate with outrage, you might have grasped that obvious point. b) My first post 'ignored her' because... wait for it... THE ARTICLE IS ABOUT NAPA, NOT HER! c) "But hey she’s just a woman and should be thankful to have a career to begin with right?" Yeah everyone who disagrees with your lunacy must be a straw man 19th century misogynist, amiright? Fair shake of the sauce bottle Mushi, you belong in a George Orwell novel.

You challenged me to name her which would have envoked shame from people of your ilk. Also to suggest she is having a hunky dory experience is just so naive. The issue here should not be your school yard girls suck but the invasion of privacy. In your first post did ignore her existence that is 100% fact. Again you introduced gender. As to fall out Blakely has taken a larger hit to her career than hurrell. But hey she's just a woman and should be thankful to have a career to begin with right? Anyone that thinks girls will come out better from this type of incident is a moron

It has all been framed within an 'NRL boofhead misbehaviour' media narrative, and the NRL has succumbed by launching an investigation into Napa. You went on a rant about me 'ignoring a woman's existence' (because patriarchy, presumably) when as I pointed out she has never been named nor talked about in the media, so clearly this is why I'm going to be talking about Napa and not her. To frame this as "ignoring a woman's existence" is just weird. I challenged you to show that I was wrong and you said, explicitly, I'd "called for her to be NAMED AND SHAMED". That was a hysterical lie. I simply pointed out the hypocrisy. If you seriously believe Samantha Kerr would get the same media treatment as Dylan Napa then fair enough, but personally I really doubt it.

First. Not a lie you asked me to put forward something where she was named. I'll concede it was misguided on your part, due to your protestations, rather that deliberate but you still asked. Did you ignore existence. Yep cold hard fact, your attempts to obsficate this portray you as a liar. Just like your lie about me attempting to have you banned. You know if we're getting to that point... Second. You introduced gender. You and only small minded you. If you didn't want a gender debate why did you literally start it and then continually restate it? Here's a hint Boo, you don't want to discuss gender then don't pull the its different for women line. Third. The vast majority of people (actually everyone) I've spoken with on this, including NRL sponsors, also see Napa as the "victim" you are just using faux outrage to vent your mysoginist spleen. He's got the RLPA advocating for him when they were absent on most other cases. You're creating a false destruction of his career to straw man your gender arguement.

My point was that Napa is being treated as the perpetrator of a crime when he is the victim of a crime. If a high-profile woman had a private video of her leaked she would be seen as a victim. I don't need a lesson in gender studies from you, nor do I need lies like “And now you are openly asking people to name and shame her”. You are a liar, clear and simple. Dress up your lies with gender theory if it makes you feel better, but you're still a liar.

Barred? Child please. You'd need to slaughter every baby on the planet to get barred here. The part of the comment challenging me for her identity was all I was questioning. I've long come to terms that your ilk will always have a home on the internet and sadly, the nrl fan base. You, and you alone turned this into gender battle with your opening "woe is me being Male " salvo. You see me as falsely pious and I see you as a hypocritical mysoginistic relic.

No they didn't. You said "And now you are openly asking people to name and shame her". A complete fabrication. I said nothing of the sort. And by then saying "and the Roar is ok with this?" you were effectively calling for me to be barred over something I never said, and something I would never say, as it is the OPPOSITE of my beliefs. You should be ashamed of your behaviour. Get off your self-righteous high horse and take a look in the mirror.

Are you on the drink? I don't even know who she is. When did I call for her to be named? You're just making things up. Fact is, his reputation has been trashed and yet there are calls for him to be punished. Yet when this EXACT thing - i.e. leaking of private tapes - has happened to women to target them (and clearly Napa was the target here, not the unnamed woman), the woman has RIGHTFULLY been called a victim.

Um weird that you put up a quote and then ask a question completely irrelevant to the quote. You ignored her existence in your post. Fact. Did you introduce anything to refute that? No you just further reinforced it. And now you are openly asking people to name and shame her? And the roar is okay with this? I already said "we don't know" so not sure why you make a redundant request other than to get the kicks out of ruining her life too? She exists. You didn't acknowledge it. That you're defending that speaks volumes of your character or lack there of. As I said, but you missed, I'm on Napa's side I just can't stomach your obvious gender bias. The issue isn't gender based (plenty of women have been attacked for this behavior) it's the general reaction and people like you dont help.

"Your casual dismissal of her existence" - sorry, can you please point out the media article shaming her and calling for her to be punished for her bad behaviour? I bet you can't. She hasn't even been named. Whereas Napa has had his reputation destroyed. ANYONE who has private videos leaked, man or woman, is a victim. But the media has rabidly gone after Napa as if he's the perpetrator of a crime.

But she was in the video right? She just wasn't important to you. Because she was a chick willing to sleep with an NRL player. We also don't really know what she's gone/going through. You've assumed that away. Your casual dismissal of her existence kind of answers your own rhetorical question as to the outrage. I don't think Napa should face any harsh punishment for an act between consenting adults which neither intended for public consumption. But your gender war outrage is the typical ridiculousness of the caveman the nrl is trying to leave behind

The woman in this case hasn't had her name dragged through the media, and hasn't faced calls for her punishment.
