Injury troubles at White Hart Lane

By Lachlan Mitchell / Roar Guru

The loaded gun at White Hart lane has turned into a shiny piece of artillery with no bullets or ammunition.

Tottenham Hotspur has felt the effects of their growing injury list after going down 2-1 to a struggling Chelsea side. Tottenham has not lived up to their 2019-20 season internationally or domestically. The loss of leading man Harry Kane has seen the likes of Lucas Moura step up to fill the shoes of the England striker. Jose Mourinho has touted the 9 May clash against Leicester as the return date for the power forward.

Kane’s absence has been felt in a big way, with the side missing clinical finishes and squandering opportunities with a lack of poise to find the net and be a constant presence up forward.

The injury curse at Spurs has continued, with Kane’s replacement Son Heung-min also on the mid-term injury list with a fractured arm. Son was set to star up forward in the Englishman’s absence but is expected back late May. Spurs will miss their South Korean star’s exceptional form in the Champions League, in which he scored five goals in six appearances. Tottenham felt the full effect of his absence after going down 1-0 in there clash at home against RB Leipzig.

The struggle with the strike force up forward has opened the door for Moura and Dele Ali to step up to fill those big shoes. Mourinho has played the likes of Steven Bergwijn in that prime striking position up forward, which paid dividends in their match against Manchester City. The likes of Ali have often been used as a substitution in the final stages of a match to find a goal or seal a game late.

The overall injury trouble will have to open up Mourinho’s mind in the transfer window to target a striker, especially with the depleted stocks in the Spurs sheds.

Rumours have been abundant that favourite child Gareth Bale is set to make his return to White Hart Lane from Real Madrid. The rumour comes after a suspected falling out with coach Zinedine Zidane. Bale has had an extension to his contract that will see him stay with Real Madrid until June 2022, but he could have a release clause in his contract, and the idea of him heading back to the Premier League is an exciting prospect for Spurs fans.

Sorry I disagree Mourinho has been in free fall His second year at Chelsea when he started with insulting the club doctor , he’s just toxic . Sacked at man utd because of how abysmal the team was . That’s recent failure . Wining a Europa cup which doesn’t include the best 32 in Europe with United is a sign of how low he took them . His negativiity is a disaster wherever he goes But sure he had a great record before that

Pretty harsh on Mourinho there, I think everyone would agree he has yet to really fail as a manager. Give respect where respect is due

This acceptance of 4 th with 13 losses , exemplifies why spurs won’t win the league any time soon . They were only slightly above ordinary last year . 13 losses stinks . So far behind the top 2 . You need to separate good cup runs from what makes a excellent premier league team. But look , I have time for spurs , but was very surprised they didn’t bsck potch with some signings.., now they are stuck with Mourinho.. good luck with that .. he kills your spirit and I don’t think he can compete with better coaches over a season .

I completely understand your point of view, I think Spurs fans expected a better showing and a positive outlook on the season from making to the champions league final last year. I also agree that extra optimism was added once Jose was added as a coach. Plenty needs to be done once the transfer market opens for Spurs fans.

Did spurs fans really expect to do better this season. I saw spurs as in slight decline last season ( and yes I know they made the final ). A great old coach at man utd named Alex Ferguson was a genius at spotting players in decline and rebuilding before a fall .. I guess I just look at things from that perspective sometimes .

Kanggas2, yeah the loses last season in the domestic competition were not great, but a 4th place finish and a place in the final of the champions league isn't a bad result for any team.

Spurs lost 13 games in the epl last year... the champions league run camouflaged a team with some good players but serious flaws that was never likely to go better this season.
