Joe Burrow will be the best QB from this draft

By Tyler Stevens / Roar Rookie

On April 23, the Cincinnati Bengals drafted Joe Burrow with the first overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft. Many saw this coming, as many experts had this in their mock drafts since day one.

Even when chatter came about that the Miami Dolphins were talking to the Bengals about trading up for the first pick, many did not believe that smoke screen.

The Dolphins ultimately took Tua Tagovailoa with their fifth overall pick. Many see these guys as the top one and two overall players in the draft, but who will come out on top when it’s all said and done?

During the 2019 college football season, Joe Burrow took the season by storm and won the Heisman Trophy and the National Championship.

Tagovailoa, on the other hand, played exceptionally well and many people saw him as the first pick in the draft until he got hurt.

His hip injury during the season had teams concerned, and ultimately made him slip to fifth instead of first.

Now, seeing where they landed and their teams’ circumstances, who will be the best pro? The quarterbacks in the NFL see longevity if they are accurate, and do not turn the ball over.

Joe Burrow threw a nation-leading 77.6 per cent completion rating, compared to Tagovailoa’s 71 per cent, and Burrow had 60 touchdowns to six interceptions.

Burrow is accurate, can throw the ball all over the field, and has a swagger no one else in this draft has.

Cincinnati also has more weapons than Miami, as crazy as that sounds. The 2-14 Bengals have a pro bowler in AJ Green at wide receiver, and Joe Mixon for running back to help the rookie.

Other wide receivers and tight ends on that roster are young and have potential, and adding Burrow to the mix will only help them.

Also, when comparing Burrow to Tagovailoa, the injury factor does come into play as well. Burrow was healthy all year and came into the draft unlike Tagovailoa and the hip questions.

Burrow will take over the league this year and for many years, and we will look back at this draft and see Joe Burrow as the best player from this year’s draft class.

Should go to the titans, they lack an elite arm.

There is actually talk that Rogers could leave GB. After this year he has no more guaranteed money on his contract.

True but a great QB can make average receivers look brilliant whereas a crap QB can make brilliant receivers look average. We see that all the time in College. And in Cleveland.

Oh yeah that was an incredibly daft move from the packers. I don’t mind the eagles going in for a quarterback as Carson wentz has had some injuries in the past

True, I personally think quarterback can be one of the most over rated positions in the league. It’s all for naught if you don’t have a good wide receivers brigade and a good offensive line buying you time in the pocket

Oh dear, yes I think the Packers had a bit of a shocker. When you have such a tremendous QB as Rodgers surely you build your team around him? It was a very strange draft indeed.

Yep. Bit of a waste of a first round pick for a team one week away from the SB last year and in desperate need of attacking weapons. Especially with all the WR studs in this draft.

I think the Colts had a tremendous draft! My Packers on the other hand... don’t get me started

Thanks for the article Tyler. I wish Roar had more NFL articles. It was an intriguing draft, and not because of the Rona impact. I’ve been perusing the various draft grades and there is a consensus that both the Bengals and the Dolphins have done well with their QBs. Personally I’m content with my Colts’ effort.

How about Green Bay taking Jordan Love yesterday? Reckon that will piss Aaron off much? I mean, I know Rodgers is 35, but I think he’s still got a few more years left yet.

Great first article! Joe is certainly the safest bet, but I think Tua has the higher ceiling. It will be fascinating to watch. Here’s hoping we get a full, on time, 2020 season to watch.

I guess we'll find out this year if Brady would have been Brady if he hadn't gone to the Patriots.

Bit of a surprise for Philly to pick Jalen Hurts today. Obviously they are a bit worried about Went' longevity.

I mean that’s the theory but Brady went 199 when he clearly should’ve gone in the second round at the latest

Well he’s No 1 overall so he should be the best player. A lot depends on the coaching though.
