Fractured Collingwood should start looking forward

By Lachlan Mitchell / Roar Guru

Collingwood are once again under the spotlight after a poor showing on Anzac Day. The emergence of a new breed of baby Bombers had Essendon holding all the cards in a 24-point win.

The Pies might be the biggest team in Australia but their first six games of 2021 have had pundits and fans scratching their heads.

Collingwood have only managed to win one game this season, defeating old rival Carlton in Round 2. The Pies have had their fair share of external noise in the off season with President and media personality Eddie McGuire stepping down from the top job after a review into Collingwood culture left him red faced.

Under the eyes of Collingwood’s favourite son Nathan Buckley, the club has copped it from critics, with plenty saying his methods and game plan fall short in the modern game.

The dreaded R word – rebuild – has been echoed across the country when it comes to the hapless Pies. The ageing list including Scott Pendlebury and Steele Sidebottom have caused fans to ask whether it is time to trade up and invest in the future.

The Geelong Cats took matters into their own hands, trading off veterans Paul Chapman and Steve Johnson to ensure the future of the club and grabbing a few extra draft picks.

Perhaps that becomes a reality that Collingwood has to come to terms with to ensure a rebuild starts now.

Newly appointed Magpies President Mark Korda still has finals on the cards for 2021, which looks almost impossible now.

A rift between Korda and Buckley has already started to show, with varying views on the club’s next steps to ensure success in the future.

Still not as much as they could have had if they had put Treloar up for market value instead of steak knives

South of me but still pretty good! A decent reef boat is awesome, and spear fishing is king near me. Barra have been taken at about 1m and red emperor have been going alright too. The Hinchenbrook channel is a good switch up for something different. You can do alright in the rivers too but don't stand in the water or clean fish in the same spot regularly or anything dumb like that, or you'll be on the menu

If you could snare a late first rounder or an early second for Sidebottom you would have to take it I think . Mihocek is not going to be your next 80 goal forward who wins games off his boot , worth a look at I think

Collingwood just have given away their best players at the last draft (with the exception of Darcy Moore). Steve J, Chapman and Kelly did not net Geelong awesome picks, it left space for new talent to come through. Collingwood just don't have a lot that is top shelf trade worthy atm that will get them first round draft picks.
