My take on the Broncos: Round 8

By reynolds / Roar Rookie

The Broncos are coming off nothing short of a spectacular win over Gold Coast and fans are expecting the boys to deliver another.

Then boys have some real responsibilities this weekend, but I trust that they will really show up for their fans.

Jamayne Isaako has been picked at fullback this week and with his performance this week the jersey really picked itself. He had some spectacular moments such as when he was challenged with a high ball, he took it well and proceeded to split the line and find Xavier Coates in support. Isaako really showed some spark in his gameplay with on-point footwork, consistent takes and spectacular goalkicking.

Corey Oates and Coates are our wingers yet again this week, they played well against Titans and they are starting to cement a spot in the starting side. Oates looks as if he is regaining his prime form and his intercept had me up on my feet screaming like there was no tomorrow. Coates has been playing very well this year and I hope he decides to follow through with a future at the Broncos.

Herbie Farnworth and Jesse Arthars really played well, Arthars got a four-pointer of his own in the second half to give the Broncos the edge. Farnworth was decent but he has more potential than what we saw.

I’m really happy with how our halves played, it seemed Tyson Gamble really showed some talent and potential in that game and is a potential long-term half. It is always good to see Anthony Milford back playing first-grade footy though. Milford and Gamble will be a deadly combination.

Matt Lodge and Payne Haas are our front-rowers, these two powerhouses are always leading the boys up the field and showing some real Broncos spirit. Lodge is easily our most hated player but with his performance lately, I can’t complain. Haas always shows the pride he has in his jersey.

Jordan Riki and Tevita Pangai Junior have been named as the second-rowers. These two can be lethal, Tevita in particular. It should be a priority to keep Riki, these two are going to really step up and assert some dominance during the Queensland Derby. Patrick Carrigan has been named as our lock, if he can just fix his butterfingers then he could really help us.

Our starting hooker is Jake Turpin and his defence and attack are on point in his best games. Despite his pretty good form, once Danny Levi gets some more experience, he is very capable of stealing the No. 9 jersey right from Turpin’s grasp.

The bench is Danny Levi, Thomas Flegler, Ethan Bullemor and Rhys Kennedy.

He may be playing well but is that because we have given him opportunity? Let’s five someone else opportunity? Why give Coates game time and valuable experience so he can take it to the Storm? Let’s get someone on the wing that we can make the next great origin wing.

Never judge too early, Jonathon Thurston was a player who was predicted to be a nobody. Let that sink in.

Coates. Gone. He can play Instrust cup for the rest of the season. There is something rotten at the Bronc’s. Retention/recruitment is a problem and, I think, it reflects on the current culture.

"Coates has been playing very well this year and I hope he decides to follow through with a future at the Broncos" Nope, he is gone. NRL website confirms that he told Broncos players this morning. It looks like Melbourne have their JAC replacement.

Good to see Broncos players finally playing out the 80 minutes and really having a go.
