Sydney racing selections: Rosehill tips for Saturday, February 19

By Dixie / Roar Guru

With confidence high after consecutive winning weeks, we head to Rosehill this week for a card mixed with high quality autumn preparations and mid-graders finishing off summer campaigns.

The last meeting at Rosehill featured a pretty savage rails/leader bias. I’ll naturally favour on-pacers anyway but for the sake of a good day’s racing, here’s hoping it plays fairly.

Best bet: Race 7 – 8 Mightybeel (four units at $4.20)
Boxes are ticked all over the place with Mightybeel. He had a breather over Christmas and gets out over a preferred trip (two from four at 1900 metres) second up.

His runs in Q4 last year were consistently top notch. Tommy Berry on top is another plus.

Apparently he opened at $9, I well and truly missed that, but I’m still going hard at the current price considering I’ve marked him at $2.05.

Best value: Race 3 – 11 Sally Pops (one unit at $21)
With no weight on her back, I am happy to nibble at Sally Pops in the Midway.

She bolted in at lower grade before Christmas in Canberra. Since then she’s been middling but with excuses.

Fingers crossed she’s ridden positively and luck is with her.

Melbourne Group 1 preview – Lightning Stakes

Flemington Race 7 – 1 Nature Strip (2 units at $2.70)
This is a cracking race with the top-liners. I often mention how you need to beat the best to be the best.

Quite simply, Nature Strip wears all the belts at the moment. At nine from 15 at 1000 metres and great fresh and Flemington stats, he’s the one to beat.

I’m a huge Home Affairs fan but risking at the short trip, Gytrash looks over the odds to me, Eduardo always flies fresh and Profiteer could step up if ready.

It is an exciting day. We’re getting serious now. Go well and good punting.

next week chipping norton stakes should be good, think it over and verry elegant. Zaaki too.

Yep ripper. I’m probably still in NS camp but with HA only improving over longer, I could shift. I thought Kah did well to be trailing following the squeeze at the start, my mate’s position was that if J-Mc was riding there is no squeeze…

It was a good race. Home Affairs did well, but Nature Strip was unlucky after missing the start.

Yep does look a beauty for sure Chris. The 1000 trip only adds to it, over 1200 I’d have Home Affairs right in the mix. Ripper. Ebhaar gets the magic back today? Sub 57 secs for 1000 trip is elite…

LIghning stakes a classic this year. Nature strip and eduardo the gun sprinters at WFA level. I always look for value so hoping they stuff their timing up down the straight, so wont be on either. Hard to know who could upset, Gytrash has excellent 1000m form, so I am hoping more than anything. Should be a good race.
