Sydney racing selections: Randwick tips for Saturday, March 5

Randwick and rain again this week. Last week’s magic act to even get on may need repeating considering the lashing we’ve received.

Heavy 10 and more seems inevitable, I think it may be worth watching how the track is playing across the day.

I hope everyone is safe and well, particularly industry players around Warwick Farm who, along with their horses in many cases, were evacuated during the week.

Best bet: Race 9 – 3 Arctic Thunder (2 units @ $11)
On a tricky day, Arctic Thunder is a horse I think is big overs and I’m happy to follow-in at double figure odds. She’s a winner, in form and shapes to end up in a nice spot from a wide-ish draw but only middling seed across the board.

Best value: Race 10 – 11 Geist (1 unit @ $12)
Geist is beautifully placed to run well first-up in the lucky last. Her win over King of Sparta last trip just sings to me, conditions should be fine and a few of her competitors are suspect in the going. She normally comes from near the tail, if she can find the fresh ground out near the Octagonal Bar she could be coming hard.
