NRL Judiciary: Barnett cops ban, Hopoate's hair pull charge, Wighton fined

By The Roar / Editor

The Warriors might have ruined Jarrod Croker’s 300th game party, but they have done it at a cost with Mitch Barnett set to miss their next game after being charged with a Grade 2 high tackle on Jordan Rapana.

Barnett was binned for the incident and will now sit out their next game unless he chooses to fight the charge. Should he fight and lose, that will be doubled to two games.

Marata Niukore was also binned for a separate high shot on Rapana, but was only fined despite three prior charges within the relevant period. He faces a two game ban unless he takes the Early Guilty Plea and accepts a $3000 fine.

From the same game, two Raiders were charged. Jack Wighton was given a Grade 1 for a high tackle and Albert Hopoate a Contrary Conduct after pulling the hair of Dallin Watene-Zelezniak. It was also the Warriors winger who copped the high shot from Wighton.

There were no charges from Manly’s victory over the Dolphins at Brookvale Oval.

You should be allowed to grab hair on two conditions 1. you are trying to make a tackle on a player with the ball 2. you grab the hair as part of a genuine attempt to grab the jersey

Can’t remember a season with so many hair pull incidents. Here’s a weird idea; wear a headgear or get it cut.

What about the late high hit on Shaun Johnson. Never a ref around to see those indiscretions in real time. Plenty of wyes on the warriors though.
