Sir Douglas Nicholls Indigenous round continues here in Adelaide tonight with the Adelaide Crows playing host to the red-hot St Kilda. Join The Roar for live scores, coverage and analysis from 7:30pm (AEST).
Tonight is a huge game for the Saints as they look to cement themselves in the top four as we approach the halfway point of the season.
The Crows went down to the in-form Lions last week but they will be looking to strike against a wounded Saints outfit, missing captain and superstar Jack Steele in the midfield.
The home side have two of the most in-form mids in the game in Rory Laird and Ben Keays, who have an output that the Saints will want to get under control early. Up forward, Taylor Walker has been in red-hot form this season, averaging nearly three goals a game since returning from suspension. The Saints’ defence will need to cover him well as his contested marking ability has been difficult for opposition teams to stop so far in 2022.
Adelaide have had some serious highs and lows this season: they feel like a team that is about to explode out of the blocks and find their 2017 form in the coming years.
The Saints have had some impressive wins this year and they will look to continue this form in South Australia tonight. However, they will need to do so with a couple of really big players in Steele and Jack Higgins.
Steele has been the Saints’ most important player in the last couple of years since taking over as captain. He has repaid the faith of his coach since moving him away from a tagging role.
What I am looking forward to most is seeing who will go to Taylor Walker and Tim Membrey from the respective backlines.
I am tipping the Saints to pull off a famous victory in Adelaide by 12 points.

Agreed that 3-7 isn't good enough - unfortunately they haven't been able to maintain the level against some good teams, and they've gone missing against some middling teams (the Pies and Giants games come to mind). Four of those losses have been against top-5 teams, so they're understandable, but still frustrating when they're genuinely in the game (this one) or when they get blown away and can't slow the opposition down (Lions game). As far as the Saints go, I'd be happy for their supporters to taste success after so many years.

I know it’s a youngish group n all but l think they need to get their Gonzo on. 3/7 is not good enough. Difficult kicking positions are a function of the opposing teams good defence. Good work by the Saints. Happy for my brother. If they keep on winning he may hang on to see them get a flag. ——- The PR Coach is driving me up the wall and around the twist.

I haven't seen the post-match (turned off the broadcast in disappointment just after the final siren), so I can't comment Nicks' presser. Agreed on the rebuild though.

They kicked pretty awfully from set shots, which seemed to be a combination of maybe having to kick from less-than-ideal positions and a bit of the yips. Max King chose a bloody awful week to get the kicking boots on too.

I also reckon poor kicking for goal is a sign that the opposing team is inside your head.

Yeah, l agree. But l also watched his coaching wrap and l just think he’s got a lack of fired up zeal. He’s got a “TAFE Coaching Coma” and I’m pleased for him. But l wanna see heart onya sleeve angst, a stream of consciousness disappointment and a death stare of intent. —— I don’t want no 23 year rebuild

A new goalkicking coach? If they had kicked with even a modicum of accuracy Adelaide would have had this game sewn up in the third quarter. At that stage they had nearly twice as many scoring shots. Six goals thirteen was the issue. And Christ was it frustrating.

Thanks for the call! Listening on the radio and seems like Adelaide maybe the better team for large parts of the game. Glad king brought his kicking boots!

Good on us. Others will counsel patience, not me, get someone new in now. Punching yourself in the face continually will induce nose bleeds, broken nose and finally a coma. ——- Or we could stop the stupidity now. At least it’d be a different fist.

Great contested grab from Membrey. He drills it from 30m out. The back and forth in this game is insane. Crows - 68 Saints - 72 5:40 left in the final term
