The Port Adelaide Power welcome the Gold Coast Suns to the Adelaide Oval today looking to respond after a poor Showdown performance. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match, starting from 1:10pm (AEST).

Ken Hinkley’s side were poor against the Adelaide Crows last week at the Adelaide Oval. The 20-point loss highlighted the fact that the Power still have plenty of work to do, despite some promising signs in the early parts of the 2019 season.

Last weekend did have some positives, however. Tom Rockliff was immense. The midfielder accumulated 41 disposals and was a real nuisance for the Crows. Dougal Howard and Sam Powell-Pepper both kicked two majors each, also.

After the opening eight rounds, the Power sit with four wins and four losses. The talent is certainly there, but the consistency is not.

In team news this week for the Power, Aidyn Johnson, Todd Marshall and Willem Drew are all omitted. Ryan Burton is out injured.

Joel Garner will make his AFL debut. Zak Butters, Joe Atley and Billy Frampton also come into the side.

As for the Suns, they are coming off a heartbreaking one-point loss against the Melbourne Demons. Stuart Dew’s side were brave at Metricon Stadium last weekend, but they just could not hold on.

They led in the dying moments, which makes the loss a difficult one to take, but it should not detract from the fact the Suns have been solid thus far in 2019.

David Swallow was the biggest positive for the Suns, as the midfielder found the ball 35 times against the Demons. Nick Holman and Ben Ainsworth both kicked two majors each, also.

The Suns have chalked up three wins from the opening eight rounds.

In team news this week for the Gold Coast, Ben King will make his AFL debut. Brayden Fiorini and Jesse Joyce also come into the side.

Pearce Hanley (quad), Sean Lemmens (ankle) and Touk Miller (heel) all make way.

Prediction
It is difficult to look past the Power at the Adelaide Oval. They were poor last week, which should mean there is a response.

Port Adelaide by 31 points.

The Port Adelaide Power have defeated the Gold Coast Suns by 38 points at the Adelaide Oval. Stuart Dew's Suns were brave and were well in the game in the first half, but Ken Hinkley's Power put a terrific performance together in the second half. Travis Boak finished the game with 36 disposals. The Suns could not get near him. Billy Frampton and Kane Farrell both finished the game with three majors each. The fact it was pouring down rain in Adelaide definitely helped the Suns, but there were positives to take for the Gold Coast club regardless of the fact the conditions suited them. Brayden Fiorini was a real presence in the midfield, and the fact he finished the game with 38 disposals backs that statement up. Alex Sexton was also a threat in front of goal, as he finished with two majors. Port Adelaide: 13.11 = 89 Gold Coast: 7.9 = 51

12 free kicks to Port in that term. A bit farcical.
