The Adelaide Strikers have second spot in their sights as they host the Hobart Hurricanes on Sunday evening, with a win enough to secure them a precious double chance. Join The Roar for live scores from 7:10pm (AEDT).

With the ladder-leading Melbourne Stars in a serious form slump, having lost three games in succession, earning the right to take them on in the BBL’s first “Qualifier” final would be very handy indeed.

Currently sitting two points behind the Sydney Sixers, but with a comfortably superior net run rate, a win will see the Strikers jump into second, while even defeat will see them retain their current spot in third.

Having won their last four games in a row and boasting a fearsome bowling attack spearheaded by spin sensation Rashid Khan and death-bowling master Peter Siddle, plus plenty of batting might as well, the Strikers are primed for a major crack at a second BBL crown.

For the sixth-placed Hurricanes, the equation is simple – win, and there’s still a chance; lose, and it’s curtains for BBL|09.

Should they win, they’d need one of the Perth Scorchers and the Brisbane Heat to lose their final games of the season, while maintaining their slender net run rate advantage over the seventh-placed Sydney Thunder. All possible – but toppling the Strikers on their home turf is easier said than done.

For the second game in a row, captain Matthew Wade and D’Arcy Short are both available to renew the opening partnership that carried the ‘Canes to top spot in BBL|08. You fancy they’d both need to shine for the men in purple to record an upset win.

Prediction
In the form they’re in, it’s difficult to see the Strikers not getting this done in front of their home fans, especially with so much at stake.

Adelaide Strikers by 22 runs/7 wickets.

Cracking game ! Watched it in a bowling club, half the joint was transfixed with the liberal scoring and the closeness right up until the end. Fair result, well played both teams.
